STUDENT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
As a prospective student in the School of Education (SOE) at Miami Dade College, I understand my
responsibilities for successful completion of the program as outlined below. My initials beside each
statement indicate that I have read and acknowledge each statement. My signature at the end of the
document indicates my intentions to comply with SOE procedures and expectations at all times. Noncompliance
may result in being dismissed from the program.
I. Admission and Registration requirements:
___ I must take and pass the Reading, English, and Math sections of the General Knowledge Test within
the first nine credits of the upper division.
___ Permission to register for classes WITHOUT meeting requirements for full admission is a privilege
and may be withheld if requirements are not met appropriately in the future as determined by the
administration of the SOE.
___ I must indicate on my Florida Teacher Certification Examination registration materials that test
results must be sent to MDC.
___ I must consult with an SOE advisor at North, Kendall or InterAmerican campus in person each
semester in order to register for classes.
___ In case of change of name, address, phone number, or emergency contact, it is my responsibility to
register those changes immediately in the Student Information center at any campus.
___ Graduation requirements are based on program, institution, and State mandates at the semester of
my full admission to the program, not necessarily the semester of my first enrollment in program classes.
___ I must maintain my security clearance status by updating it through the Office of Student Teaching
and Field Experience.
II. Professionalism:
___ It is my right to be treated with professional courtesy and respect by my peers, my instructors, and
the SOE administration and staff. I understand that it is my responsibility to treat others in a professional
manner, informed and guided by the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the
Education Profession in Florida, the MDC Students’ Rights and Responsibilities, and the SOE
Handbooks and expectations.
___ It is my responsibility to attend my scheduled classes regularly, to communicate emergency
situations to my instructors immediately, to complete and submit assignments in a timely fashion, to
attend mid-term and final exams, and to participate proactively in class sessions and online discussions.
___ I agree to present myself appropriately and professionally at all times, aware of the differences
between appropriate campus attire and grooming and school site attire and grooming.
___ I must obtain a personal mymdc.net email address and use this in all email communications with
faculty and staff. I must check the “inbox” regularly for important messages from SOE administration,
instructors, and advisors.

III. Program Expectations and Requirements:
___ I must follow the established sequence of courses in my program.
___ I agree to purchase and use LiveText, the software program used by MDC SOE for management of
course submissions and documentation of my attainment of FEAPs and standards.
___ I will comply with all field hour requirements for each course.
___ I will keep evidence of my field hours completed, professional development, and all other credentials
necessary for graduation pursuant to my program requirements in my SOE E-Portfolio.
___ I understand that in courses with SOE instructor observations, the selection of a site is the
prerogative of the SOE and program requirements, and not mine.
___ I understand that approval for Student Teaching placement is contingent on meeting ALL
requirements: timely submission of application and supporting documents, full admission status, program
coursework completed with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, passing scores on all sections of the Florida
Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE): General Knowledge Test (GKT), Subject Area Exam (SAE),
and the Professional Test, approval of my SOE E-Portfolio, and satisfactory completion of all field
experience.
IV. Graduation:
___ I understand that recommendation for graduation is forwarded ONLY for students who have met ALL
program, SOE, institutional, and state requirements, and are free of financial obligations to the institution.
