Recycling crafters
Members of the Good Things Craft Club put together a recycled fall craft project this week
at the Wells County Public Library, as they created leaf wreaths and swags from the pages
of old book. The leaves were cut from yellowed page, had wires glued to them, and then
were attached to a wire wreath or swag. Emily Marshall, at right, of the library staff, led
the Martha Stewart project as she worked at fashioning a ribbon bow. Crafters left to right
were Sheryl Brown, Susan Ealing, Mary Ellen McEvoy and Pat Dyson. Next meeting for the
Good Things Club will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, with a floral arranging demonstration
planned. There is no charge to attend and no reservations are needed. (Photo by Barbara
5 power plants could be mothballed
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.
(AP) — Duke Energy
expects to close much of a
coal-powered generating
plant in western Indiana
within the next few years.
The company is watching
new federal environmental
regulations that are due for
release in November and
considering shutting down
several of the six units at
Wabash River Station near
Terre Haute as soon as 2014,
Duke spokeswoman Angeline
Protogere said.
“While we haven’t made
any final decisions, our units
at Wabash River Station are
likely to be retired earlier
than expected,” Protogere
told the Tribune-Star (http://
bit.ly/pjhl9g).
The power plant was
completed in stages between
1953 and 1968. Duke owns
five of its generating units,
with the other owned by
Wabash Valley Power Association
and SG Solutions.
Duke has about 100
employees and 40 full-time
contractors at the plant, but
Protogere said the company
didn’t yet know how a
shutdown would affect the
workforce.
