And it is planning to throw a “Member Appreciation Lunch” to do it. Plans are underway for a free hot dog, baked beans, pretzels and cookie lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Arts, Commerce and Visitors Centre. (AP) — A Dutch company that designs and makes wind turbine blades will open its first U.S. facility at a former refrigerator plant in Evansville that Whirlpool Corp. closed last year. Global Blade Technology executives joined Gov. Mitch Daniels and city officials in the announcing that the company would lease a portion of the factory for offices and production lines for making wind blades, molds and tooling. Jay, Randolph wind project breathes Portland Commercial Review A major wind turbine project in southern Jay and northern Randolph counties that once appeared dead is very much alive, local officials said this week. Bill Bradley, executive director of Jay County Development Corp., told his board that the project is likely to move forward. The project, in the planning stages for several years, hit a snag when American Electric Power elected to purchase power from the developer of a proposed wind farm in central Indiana. DIVERSIONS A mom and her two sons Dear Annie: My husband and his brother, “Sam,” are both in their 50s. My mother-in-law thinks Sam is “the golden child.” He and his wife receive the best gifts, and we get whatever trash she can put her hands on. She gives my sister-in-law all the best jewelry, and I get cheap junk. She recently told me that for my birthday, she was sending a blouse that she bought for herself, wore a few times and now doesn’t care for. I don’t know what to say to her when she does these things. My main concern is how it makes my husband feel. When he tries to visit, she tells him not to bother, that she doesn’t need to see him. But when Sam visits, she runs out and gets her hair and nails done and stocks the house with all of his favorite things. My husband deals with it by lowering his expectations, but I find it more difficult to handle. We will no longer spend holidays with his family, because our last Christmas was so painful. My sister-in-law received enough sapphires and diamonds for a ring, bracelet and earrings. I got a used mood ring. She gave each of her sons a family memento, but she told my husband he could only look at his and then needed to give it to his brother. I think she has a sick obsession with my brother-in-law, and of course, he doesn’t see the problem. My husband has told her he doesn’t appreciate how she treats us, but she doesn’t care. She has also made it clear that she’d like my husband to get back together with his exwife. (That will never happen.) I don’t care if I never see my in-laws again, but I want my husband to feel loved by his mother. Is there anything I can say or do to make her understand how hurtful her behavior is? — Sad Wife Dear Wife: Probably not. As much as it hurts, you need to let your husband handle this as he chooses. People often find that shopping or spending money gives them pleasure, even if they can’t afford it, simply because it helps them escape (at least temporarily) from the problems they’re facing. But take steps to keep this from happening to you. Not only would it be unwise to keep on the same road you’ve been on, but it would be a sin in the eyes of God. Instead of being the master of your money, you’ve become its slaves — and that is wrong. As the Bible says, “A man is a slave to whatever has mastered him” (2 Peter 2:19). Accept the fact that you can’t do everything you once did, even if it hurts your pride or tarnishes your image with others. Then draw up a realistic budget she relies on me to help.
