Results of the Norwegian North Polar Expedition 1893-1896 by Fridtjof Nansen<br />

(1861-1930) in the Fram, first ship built to withstand the pressure of pack ice, from<br />

Vardö, 1893, through the Barents, Kara, and Laptev Seas to a point just west of the<br />

New Siberian Islands, thence drifting ice-bound, westward across the north polar sea<br />

to north of Spitsbergen, 1896. Towards the end of the expedition Nansen and companion<br />
