The Stellar History
Stellar Industries, Inc., located in Garner, Iowa, was established in 1990
as the first North American corporation to design and manufacture the
hydraulic hooklift. Since its inception, Stellar has created over 40 different
models within the single-pivot, double-pivot and sliding jib lines.
In 1993, Stellar acquired Collins division of David Manufacturing
Company, a local company that designed and manufactured custom tire
service trucks used by commercial, agricultural and OTR tire dealers.
Today Stellar offers a countless number of tire service truck combinations
that include over 8 different models of tire service cranes ranging in
capacities up to 28,000 pounds, a variety of accompanying tire
manipulators, and a growing list of service bodies to meet any tire service
need.
1999 was the year the Stellar telescopic crane line entered the market
with its industry first hexagonal shaped boom design, 28-feet of all
hydraulic reach, a radio remote control as a standard feature, and a
planetary winch speed at 60 ft/min. Today the full crane line is available
in models that range in capacities up to 14,000 pounds. Stellar continues
to improve and expand its product offerings, such as the recent addition of
the EC Series line, the Stellar® CDT technology that offers unique twoway
communication with the operator and the Stellar TMAX Series
service bodies.
Rinspeed Inc., a Swiss design company, first brought the X-Tra-Lift pickup
loading device patented concept to Stellar in 2000. Upon additional
research and engineering, Stellar partnered with Rinspeed in 2004,
licensed the product and began manufacturing and selling the X-Tra-Lift.
Now available in two versions, the X-Tra-Lift has proven to be a
workhorse for those in the vending, delivery, airline, motorcycle sales,
recovery and repair, and recreational markets.
In 2002, American Eagle Accessories Group was created after the
acquisition of a line of air compressors initially developed by the E. L.
Smith Company. American Eagle has since developed into a leading
manufacturer of truck-mounted air compressors and heavy-duty drawer
systems. American Eagle drawers feature a 500-pound capacity ballbearing
slide that carries a lifetime warranty. These can be mounted in a
service truck or used as a stand-alone tool chest in the shop.
In March 2008 Stellar acquired K-Pac, the solid waste handling equipment
division of Krause Corporation. The acquisition included hooklifts, cable
hoists, container carriers and an automatic tarping system. The addition
of these products has opened many opportunities for Stellar in the waste,
recycling and demolition markets.
The early months of 2011 brought more additions to the Stellar family. In
March, Stellar purchased the assets of Kiefer Built, LLC, headquartered
just south of Garner in the small town of Kanawha. Kiefer is a fabricator
of steel and aluminum horse, livestock, cargo and industrial trailers with
an additional manufacturing facility located in Sneedville, TN.
Shortly thereafter, Stellar made an additional purchase in the Mason City
area. The first Stellar service and retail center, Stellar Truck & Trailer,
opened in Mid-2011. This location serves as a place for customers to
come for service and maintenance work on their equipment, as well as a
place for the North Iowa area to purchase truck equipment and
accessories
Stellar is proud to be located in the Heartland where it has designed and
manufactured its products for over 20 years. Through the use of a
continually growing product line and an expanding distributor network, its
products have gained an International presence and have become the
number one choice in many of the markets it serves. Stellar is also very
proud to be an employee owned ESOP company that employs over 250
hard-working people from the North Iowa area.
