The Oooky Spooky is a race held every October at Rock Point School with a Halloween type theme.
Every year it occurs during our parents’ weekend, the 3rd A Rock Point School fundraiser for a local organization
weekend in October. The race has 2-mile
and 5K options, and costumes are encouraged. The Oooky Spooky’s track loops around the property
and takes its runners through many of Rock Point’s trails as well as the Burlington bike path and
North Beach. The entire race is completely organized and staffed by Rock Point School faculty and
students. The senior art class also spends almost a month designing and printing t-shirts that are
given to the first 25 people that register for the race. Participants in the event not only include
students and family members, friends of the school and Rock Point faculty, but also members of the
greater Burlington community.
"The Oooky Spooky this year was more successful than I envisioned. Not only were there
numerous positive accolades for the new 5k and 2-mile cross-country
courses, but we raised nearly 50% more for COTS than last year. The
energy and enthusiasm at the event were incredible, and I believe all
participants and volunteers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to
all who contributed to the success of the 10th annual Oooky Spooky event,"
said Joe Ainsworth, this year’s organizer. In addition to all of the human
power that made this race possible, Rock
Point School would like to thank Hannaford
grocers, Fleet Feet, City Sports, Skinny
Pancake, Healthy Living, and Sportshoe
Center for their generous donations to the
event.
The race is a fundraiser for the
Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), an organization that gives
shelter to the homeless, as they work to get back on their feet. Last
year the Oooky Spooky had about 61 runners and walkers participate,
raising $605 for COTS. This year the race brought in $875, making it
significantly more successful than the previous year! We look forward
to seeing this event continue to grow!
