First Quarter 2011 Page 26 VIRGINIA BEACH SHRINE CLUB By President Bill Keating appy New Year greetings to all from the H Virginia Beach Shrine Club. We have a full schedule planned for the club this year and invite all the Khedive Nobles and their Ladies to join us. Our monthly meetings are held on the second Friday of each month, except September, at the FOP Lodge No. 8 on Birdneck Rd., Social hour is from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, our catered dinner is served at 7:00 PM, and upon completion of our meeting everyone is invited to stay and socialize. Our new officers were installed at the annual Christmas/Installation of Officers meeting which was held at the FOP Lodge No. 8 on Friday the 3rd of December. All the officers were sworn in by our Potentate for 2011, Don Meyer who did his usual great job and included the Ladies in this evolution. The party included an extremely well catered four course dinner, favors for the Ladies, Table centerpieces (all given to the Ladies), and a disc jockey provided music. There were Several Widows in attendance who all received poinsettias. The January meeting was held on the 14th at the FOP Lodge No. 8. During this meeting our Chaplain, Noble PP Ed Mise, most ably conducted our Annual Memorial Service in PP Page absence. This year we are going to have a fun at the FOP. This announcement will be made in a coming news letter. We are always looking for new fun things to do with our membership. We are constantly looking for new members and remember LADIES you are invited too. Everyone who attends will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and socializing as well as a good meal. Lasher he Williamsburg Shrine Club would like to T congratulate Illustrious Don Meyer on his election to Potentate, to all of the members of the Divan on their advancements, and to Noble Ray Teller on being elected Oriental Guide. What a great group of officers our Temple has, and what a bright future. November brought us the Grand Annual Communication in Richmond where our own Grand Master, M:.W:. William E. Rorer, Jr. passed the torch to his successor M:.W:. John Mason Chambliss, Jr. Congratulations on a great and successful year M:.W:. and Noble Bill. In celebration of our 33rd year of operation, the Williamsburg Shrine Club had its January meeting gaveled open by our very first Club President, Noble Warren Crammer, who called the meeting to order. Our current Club President, Noble Lon Weber, noted this historical moment and stated that he intends to dedicate our 33rd year to emphasizing membership and achieving a 10% net gain during the year. In November our own Dick Jones presented a program on M:.W:. Robert G. Scott, who was Grand Master of Masons in Virginia in 1829 and 1830, and who was a member of Williamsburg No. 6, but for whom the Lodge never had a portrait in our ―Grand Master‗s― portrait gallery. Noble Dick spoke on his adventure and his quest to find the Portrait of M:.W:. Scott for Williamsburg Lodge and for the Grand Lodge of Virginia. The hunt started as Dick sat in lodge one night wondering what he could do for the lodge, when his eyes came upon a picture frame with no picture but only a name "Robert G. Scott". Five years later and hundreds of hours of research later, the hunt came to an end in Waco Texas. The portrait was found hanging in the entranceway of a very rich Texas family. The Williamsburg Shrine club members were on the edge of their seats until the final details of Dick's five-year hunt ended. Noble and Brother Dick, thank you so much for your contribution to Williamsburg No 6 and to the Grand Lodge of Virginia. In December we had our Ladies join us for our annual December Christmas and Holiday party, which this year was held at the WSC home site of the Holiday Inn, Bypass Rd. The spirit was festive, and The Williamsburg Shrine Club celebrated the beginning of its 33rd year with Lon Weber (right) current president and Warren Cramer, the club's first President, gaveling the 1/9/11 meeting to order. the presence of our ladies made for a delightful occasion. Several members of our Divan were present and installed the Williamsburg Shrine Club‘s 2011 President, Noble Lon Weber, and his Officers. Mrs. Loretta Hannum, the coordinator of Social Studies for Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools, presented our January program. Mrs. Hannum presented a program on Social Studies Education in the Williamsburg/James City County school system, stressing the importance of producing socially responsible children. Finally, a huge THANKS to Illustrious Jim Canterbury and the 2010 Divan for a great year, and all of the support they gave the Williamsburg Shrine Club. The Club accomplished so much this past year, and without your support, it would not have been possible. And what a joy it was to have the Divan and their families at our various functions throughout the year. Again thanks to Illustrious Jim and Lady Jeri, as well as all of the other Divan members and their families. That‘s all from the Colonial Capital for now. But, we invite all of you to come spend an evening with us. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month, at the Holiday Inn on Bypass Rd. in Williamsburg, with the social hour beginning at 6:00PM and dinner at 7:00PM. Directions to the Holiday Inn are easy. When you get to Williamsburg, take the ―Camp Perry‖ exit (exit 238) off of I-64. From the westbound direction, turn left at the top of the ramp, then Pass through the first stoplight, then turn right at the next stoplight, and then turn right again at the next stoplight. That is Bypass Rd., or US Rt. 60. The hotel is located at the top of the hill, on the right, just past the Ramada Inn 1776. Come join us.
