Local residents who make up the team will be selling glow sticks at the Woodstock Brown Bag concert Sept. 23 and Sept. 30. For $5, you can buy a glow stick “in memory” or “in honor” of someone. The nationwide campaign hopes to raise $1 million for CHEROKEE SPOTLIGHT ■ the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. For every Invincibelle Spirit Hydrangea sold, the nursery will donate $5, plus 10 percent of the day’s sales, to the foundation. The 5K walk/run, held in honor of Woodstock resident Erin Murphy Peters, raises money to fund research to find a cure for MPS disorders. Pre-registration is available at www.runforerin.com and www.mpssociety.org. Pre-registration is $20, race day registration is $22 and family (four) registration is $75. Registration brochures are available at area stores, businesses, churches, schools and restaurants. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 8:30 am. There are 200 exhibitors, live entertainment, a children's area with inflatables, rides, games and crafts, and concessions. Admission is $5 for adults; free for children 10 and younger. Free parking. The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the National Barn Alliance are co-hosting this informative conference. The conference will feature nationally known speakers, like Jim Lindberg and Jeff Burden with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. There also will be assorted hors d'oeuvres, meat carving stations, action food stations and desserts. A cash wine and beer bar is available. There will be six grand prizes, totalling more than $30,000, auctioned off. • The annual Holly Springs Autumn Fest is set for Oct. 2 at Barrett Memorial Park on Park Lane across from Holly Springs Elementary School in Barrett Farms Subdivision. Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will include delicious food and treats, music, and lots of children’s activities. Parking is free. BUSINESS • The Appalachian Chapter of Administrative Professionals, which serves several counties, including Cherokee, is hosting a “Dress for success,” seminar, taught by Pam Cavender, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. The organization also is collecting slightly used business attire as part of a community service project. The event will be held at Dean Center at Amicalola EMC and costs $10, which includes lunch. RSVP by noon Sept. 27. Milo 28442 PET OF THE WEEK ■ Milo is a 3-year-old silver domesticated medium haired cat. He is up to date on his shots, has been neutered and will be microchipped before adoption. Milo must be adopted with a female cat named Jynx (28449) They both have been staying at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter since Aug. 24. Both tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia. Visit them in the open cat adoption room. Adoptions cost $75 for cats and dogs, and include the first round of shots, spay/neuter and microchip.
