RSF: To open multi-media center
FROM PAGE 23
Although the children in Scottish
Rite and Spalding may not be
aware of the broadcasting center
just yet, Jones said, come November,
all locations, plus two more
centers, will see exactly what has
been going on at Egleston over the
past few months.
“It will be broadcast at all three
Children’s (Egleston, Spalding
and Scottish Rite), as well as the
two Ronald McDonald Houses
near Egleston and Scottish Rite,”
Jones said. “Basically, it will be
broadcast to all five of those places,
but it is physically located at Egleston.”
While the broadcasting center
will be open to all the patients at
Children’s, Jones said volunteers
would work the boards and cue the
guests.
“The disc jockeys, if you will, are
going to be volunteers,” Jones said,
noting that each volunteer will be
trained on how to properly use the
equipment; however, some already
may know since the hospital is expecting
students from Dunwoody
High School and surrounding colleges
to participate.
“Ryan, himself, went to Dunwoody
High School, and the mass
communication students are a
part of our volunteer group,” she
Suddenly hearing aids are OLD-FASHIONED!
Whatever your opinion about
hearing aids before 10 seconds
ago, you can forget it. Now
there is an amazing new hearing
aid that not only gives you the
most incredibly improved hearing
but thanks to the latest advances
in digital bionics provides much
better value than other rival aids.
Called Anthem, its revolutionary
design actually mimics the natural
sound selection processes of the
human ear more faithfully than
anything before it.
NEW BREAKTHROUGH
multi-core processing, similar to
said, noting that collegiate broadcasting
students also are welcome
to participate.
The station will be named “The
Voice SM” in homage to Seacrest’s
early broadcasting days at Dunwoody
High School, Jones added.
“We are hoping some of the audio
talent in the Atlanta area will
participate as well,” Jones said.
“This has so much potential.”
Although the patients will not
run the multi-media center, they
will have an opportunity to interact
with the volunteers, doctors
and maybe even a celebrity guest.
“The program will be done so
that it hopefully supports the interest
of the kids,” Jones said. “They
could do a call-in request show. We
could do something like our own
‘American Idol’ or little talent
show; story time; ask the doctors;
and other segments like that.”
According to Jones, if the children
are feeling up to it, they always
are welcome to go inside the
studio.
“The station is located in a very
easily accessible part of the hospital,”
she said. “Children can come
in and watch the folks who are
working the board and the equipment.
The fact that it is radio and
television is great because kids
who are not feeling well enough to
come down to the station, won’t
In addition to asking doctors
questions and interacting in the
multi-media station, Jones said the
hospital also hopes to bring
celebrities in for interviews and
entertainment.
“Ryan Seacrest has a lot of relationships
with folks in the entertainment
industry, and we are hoping
that some of those folks will
come by and visit us,” she said.
As an example, Jones said the
hospital would enjoy having Usher
in as a guest, especially since he
lives in Atlanta.
“We would love to have our kids
interview him,” she said. “There
