Funding for local multicultural projects The Member for Murrumba, Reg Gulley MP, has urged community organisations to apply for Queensland Government grants of up to $10,000 for community projects or to stage multicultural events next year. The 2013 Multicultural Queensland Partnerships Program grants round was announced today by the Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs Glen Elmes. Mr Gulley said funding is available for activities in four categories: multicultural festivals, cultural heritage events, strengthening capacity projects and week-long festivals. “This funding gives local organisations the chance to stage events that truly reflect their own community,” Mr Gulley said. “Locals can come together, acknowledge and celebrate their differences in their own backyard - For more stories check out www.redcliffecity.com.au Hearing Problems? New grant to help first home owners and construction industry in Murrumba Murrumba first home buyers and the construction industry are set to benefit from the most generous ongoing first home owner grant in Australia in the Newman Government's first budget. Reg Gulley MP said first home buyers would receive $15,000 - up from $7,000 - when purchasing a newly constructed home or property off the plan, under the re-shaped First Home Owner Construction Grant (formerly First Home Owner Grant). "This new grant will benefit first home buyers and give the local construction industry a much needed boost," Mr Gulley said. "First home owners buying a newly constructed or off-the-plan property who sign a contract on or after September 12 will receive $15,000, a great head start on paying off their mortgage. Mr Gulley said this generous grant was aimed at making home ownership more affordable. "We've already wiped $7,000 off the cost of buying the family home by reinstating the principal place of residence transfer duty concession," he said. "The construction industry is one of the four pillars of the Queensland economy, along with tourism, agriculture and resources," he said.
