Dan Citera - Commodore 3 Commodore’s Report Greetings, fellow PCYC members, As I write this, it is August, and we just completed our annual cruise to Catalina. Everyone that participated had a very good time. We also saw first hand how club members look out for each other. One of our boats ran over a polypropylene rope floating just under the surface, and it fouled both its propellers. Jim and Marge Curley’s GaelForce II stood by it, and waited several hours until Vessel Assist arrived at the scene. Lady D was then given a side tie to Libertad for the duration of our stay on Avalon, and had an escort all the way home at the end of the cruise. PCYC boaters take care of each other! This in turn makes it possible to plan ambitious cruises, like our upcoming Cruise around Santa Cruz island. We also just completed our 35 th McNish Classic. It was a grand event, and our club was graced by the presence of 27 classic wooden sail yachts, that raced under ideal conditions in our waters. Of course, all of the activities of this event were hosted by our club and our members. We provided the support fleet to set the buoys, provided the starting line boat, the photo boats and we even had an airplane follow and photograph the race. Our clubhouse hosted all of the “on shore” activities. Dennis Conner took first place and our own “Cheerio” placed 2nd within its class, and 13 th overall . Mr. Conner was very gracious and wrote us a thank you note for a job well done. Our fishermen had two top shelf events recently. It started late June with their Grand Slam, consisting of catching a Halibut, a White Sea Bass, and a Calico Bass, all on the same day. In July they had our traditional Mako tournament. Both events were well attended, and the fishing group is having a very successful season. If you own a sea going boat, there is no better way to use it than to participate in club-organized events. We have first-rate cruising, fishing and sailing programs. PCYC is the proud sponsor of Pacific Corinthian Youth foundation. They are now in full swing with their sailing classes and youth activities. They recently had a fundraiser at the Club and I hope you were able to attend. Your club is working very well, and all segments of our membership have been participating and enjoying the activities of their choice. It is all good news, and it is all because you care, you contribute, you participate. A Message from your Membership Chair, S/C Martha Jean Geisler: Come to our Open Houses! Two in September (9th & 30th), lots of opportunity to bring in your neighbors & friends to enjoy our fun, food and friendship! If that's not convenient, call me and I'll meet with your prospective members almost any time!
