<strong>to</strong> your advantage—often the prospectus can help students organize their thoughts and<br />

focus their project very tightly on their research question.<br />

DEADLINE: Prospectus and completed approval form<br />

Friday before 5th Monday (Add/Drop Deadl<strong>in</strong>e) by 4:30 PM, <strong>Senior</strong><br />

Year Fall Term<br />

The prospectus is <strong>to</strong> be worked out with the advice of your adviser and must be ap-<br />

proved by him or her before it will be accepted. You need <strong>to</strong> obta<strong>in</strong> your adviser's<br />

signature on a <strong>Thesis</strong> Prospectus Approval Form, available at www.wjh.harvard.edu/<br />

soc/pages/senior_thesis.html or from the Undergraduate Office.<br />

The prospectus approval form is <strong>to</strong> be turned <strong>in</strong> by YOU (not your adviser) <strong>to</strong> the<br />

Undergraduate Coord<strong>in</strong>a<strong>to</strong>r by the deadl<strong>in</strong>e. Your prospectus should be attached <strong>to</strong><br />

the signed prospectus approval form. It is up <strong>to</strong> the adviser <strong>to</strong> approve the prospectus,<br />

approve it pend<strong>in</strong>g revisions by you, or <strong>to</strong> reject it, <strong>in</strong> which case you will be asked <strong>to</strong><br />

drop the thesis project. In order <strong>to</strong> ga<strong>in</strong> quick approval, therefore, you should work<br />

closely with your adviser as you draft the document, and s/he will need <strong>to</strong> see a copy<br />

of the completed prospectus at least several days prior <strong>to</strong> the deadl<strong>in</strong>e (ask how long<br />

they will need <strong>to</strong> review it).<br />
