The Department of Applied <strong>Research</strong> and Testing<br />
at the <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> offered training<br />
courses on:<br />
Management and technical requirements for<br />
the competence of testing including method<br />
validation and uncertainty of measurement<br />
Microbiological Training for cosmetic products,<br />
detergent and baby diapers<br />
Analytical training including standardization,<br />
gravimetric, titrimetric and instrumental<br />
techniques for cosmetic products, detergent and<br />
baby diapers<br />
Attending these courses were chemists and microbiologists<br />
from the Central Laboratory and Quality<br />
Control Laboratories - Ministry of Planning, Kurdistan<br />
Regional Government, Iraq.<br />
The training courses began with scientific sessions<br />
of lectures in the field of analytical testing, the Quality<br />
Management System, the implementation of ISO<br />
17025. Case studies and good laboratory practices<br />
were also discussed.<br />
In the practical testing part, the trainees then headed<br />
to the laboratories to perform the necessary tests according<br />
to the International Reference Methods. The<br />
trainees were divided into two groups, chemical and<br />
microbiological, for more specialized training.<br />
Gap Analysis<br />
The Department of Applied <strong>Research</strong> and Testing at<br />
the <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> performed gap analysis<br />
as per ISO 17025:2005 at the Chambers of Commerce,<br />
Industry and Agriculture of Zahle, Saida, as<br />
well as the Microbiology Laboratory in LARI Fanar.<br />
The objective was to identify the needs towards ISO<br />
17025 accreditation of the analytical laboratories,<br />
through conducting a gap analysis which is done in<br />
comparison with ISO requirements.<br />

the Kurdistan Regional<br />
Government - Iraq<br />
The Metrology Laboratory at the <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Research</strong><br />
<strong>Institute</strong> has conducted a training session between<br />
the 20 and 23 of December 2010 which addressed<br />
the following topics:<br />
Methods of scales calibration<br />
Methods of blocks calibration<br />
Measurement of uncertainty<br />
The session was attended by engineers from the<br />
Central Laboratory and the Quality Control Laboratories<br />
of the Ministry of Planning in the local government<br />
of the Kurdistan county of Iraq.<br />
The session included scientific lectures on quality<br />
management system and the ways of applying the<br />
system of ISO 17025. While in the applied part the<br />
trainees have made a calibration of some blocks and<br />
scales in accordance with the international standard<br />
specifications.<br />
At the end of the session, the participants expressed<br />
their desire to join other courses related to calibration,<br />
or other activities undertaken by the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
