Interpretation <strong>of</strong> Terms<br />

The following provides the interpretation <strong>of</strong> terms under this <strong>Code</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Practice</strong>.<br />

“Agency staff” – means a person who is not a member <strong>of</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> the<br />

establishment. He/she works for an agency or in his/her private capacity <strong>and</strong> is<br />

employed at the request <strong>of</strong> the patient to deliver nursing / personal care. The<br />

examples <strong>of</strong> agency staff include private nurses <strong>and</strong> accompanying persons /<br />

chaperons.<br />

“Applicant” – means the person or company or corporation applying for the<br />

registration <strong>of</strong> an establishment.<br />

“Board <strong>of</strong> Governors” – means a committee comprising directors <strong>of</strong> the<br />

company or trustees <strong>of</strong> the corporation with at least one lay member.<br />

“Clinical Staff” – means any person who delivers services related to the patient<br />

care in the establishment.<br />

“Establishment” – means a hospital, nursing home or maternity home. It<br />

includes all the health service units run under the same name <strong>of</strong> the<br />

establishment. Satellite clinic is an example <strong>of</strong> health services unit considered as<br />

part <strong>of</strong> an establishment.<br />

“Licensee” – means the applicant who has been registered in respect <strong>of</strong> an<br />

establishment. The licensee would be held responsible for any legal matters<br />

pertaining to the running <strong>of</strong> the establishment. Where the licensee is a company,<br />

the directors <strong>of</strong> the company assume the responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the licensee as<br />

stipulated in this <strong>Code</strong>.<br />

“Medical Staff” – means medical practitioners who provide medical service for<br />

patients in the establishment <strong>and</strong> affiliated with the establishment as employees,<br />

partners or holders <strong>of</strong> admission privileges.<br />

“<strong>Nursing</strong> Staff” – means registered nurses <strong>and</strong> enrolled nurses who provide<br />

nursing care to patients in the establishment.<br />
