unless the advice <strong>of</strong> the manufacturer or pr<strong>of</strong>essional advice has<br />

been sought <strong>and</strong> no risk has been identified. Such advice should<br />

be documented. All equipment should conform to current health<br />

<strong>and</strong> safety regulations. There is a planned preventive maintenance<br />

<strong>and</strong> replacement programme.<br />

3.3.2 All equipment are stored properly <strong>and</strong> rotated in use where<br />

appropriate to ensure that at the time <strong>of</strong> use they are in optimum<br />

condition.<br />

3.3.3 Written procedures are drawn up for use <strong>and</strong> for maintenance <strong>of</strong><br />

different types <strong>of</strong> equipment.<br />

3.3.4 Medical equipment intended for single use should not be reused.<br />

3.3.5 There are procedures for cleaning, disinfection, packaging,<br />

sterilisation, transportation <strong>and</strong> storage <strong>of</strong> reusable medical<br />

equipment. Medical devices are h<strong>and</strong>led safely <strong>and</strong><br />

decontaminated prior to re-use. Re-usable medical devices are<br />

decontaminated in accordance with best practice requirements or<br />

manufacturer’s recommendations.<br />

3.3.6 A register is kept in respect <strong>of</strong> all medical equipment used for the<br />

purposes <strong>of</strong> treatment. Such register includes:<br />

(i) the date <strong>of</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> the equipment;<br />

(ii) the model <strong>of</strong> the equipment <strong>and</strong> the name <strong>of</strong> the<br />

manufacturer;<br />

(iii) the name <strong>and</strong> contact telephone <strong>of</strong> the servicing agent; <strong>and</strong><br />

(iv) details <strong>of</strong> the maintenance <strong>of</strong> the equipment <strong>and</strong> date <strong>of</strong><br />

servicing.<br />

3.3.7 Staff using medical equipment should have completed training in<br />

the safe <strong>and</strong> proper use <strong>of</strong> the equipment.<br />
