Jim Berenholtz, noted ethnomusicologist<br />
based in San Francisco, presents a visually<br />
stunning lecture and demonstration of<br />
the ceremonial dance and music of native<br />
Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia with<br />
indigenous musical instruments. Audience<br />
participation including learning the Hawaiian<br />
chant to Lara, the goddess of the forest.<br />

In this first of two parts on the music of<br />
Richard Rodgers, follow Timeless Melodies’<br />
salute to “Old Broadway” with the first<br />

Blue Moon, and many others.<br />

County Vital Aging Program<br />
(OCVAP) to bring exciting learning<br />
opportunities about our brain and<br />
the effect of art and other creative<br />
activities on cognitive health.<br />
OCVAP promotes education and<br />
life-long learning, risk factor<br />
management, and early intervention<br />
to help our community maintain their<br />
cognitive health. Programs will be led<br />
by Dr. William R. Shankle, the Judy<br />
and Richard Voltmer chair in Memory<br />
and Cognitive Disorders, program<br />
director of Memory and Cognitive<br />
Disorders, Hoag Neurosciences<br />
Institute and Director of the OCVAP.<br />
Dr. Shankle is a board certified<br />
neurologist specializing in Alzheimer’s<br />
disease and related disorders (ADRD).<br />
The “Art, Perception, and the Brain” Series is<br />
sponsored by The James Irvine Foundation.<br />
OCVAP is supported by a generous grant to<br />
Hoag Neurosciences Institute from UniHealth<br />
