Media Camps for Teens<br />
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a fi lmmaker? Use<br />
HD cameras, write scripts, create a stop motion animation, edit with<br />
Final Cut PRO – all of this using the latest technology. Spend your week<br />
totally immersed in a creative summer program at THPRD in partnership<br />
with Portland Community Media.<br />
Field Production – Documentary<br />
Explore the exciting fi eld of digital fi lmmaking in this hands-on, week<br />
program in basic documentary production. Participants will learn camera,<br />
sound, select topics, conduct research, script writing, storyboard and<br />
interview techniques to shoot and edit a documentary. Students will<br />
work in groups producing their own documentaries in a real-life setting<br />
using the latest JVC HD cameras. No previous fi lmmaking experience<br />
required – but a passion for storytelling is a must! Premier showing of<br />
all fi lms produced in the camps will be shown the evening of August 26<br />
at a red carpet event for families and friends. Location and time to be<br />
announced. This camp is held at the Athletic Center.<br />

Digital Storytelling<br />
Participants will learn to weave together images, fi rst person narration<br />
and music to tell personal stories using Final Cut PRO software. The<br />
instructor will guide students to write well-structured narrations and<br />
make creative use of visuals and audio for dramatic effect. The class<br />
is great for those who want to share memoirs, community stories or<br />
organizational profi les from their point of view. Students are encouraged<br />
to begin organizing photos for the project in advance of the fi rst class.<br />

Travel through the world of Stop Motion Animation. Participants will<br />
explore various aspects of animation. With the use of cameras, Final<br />
Cut PRO software participants will use their imaginations and creativity<br />
to bring a short story to life. No previous experience required. Premier<br />
showing of all fi lms produced in the camps will be shown the evening of<br />

groups and individually learning script writing, storyboard, character<br />
development, acting, camera, sound, pick your genre and shoot your<br />
fi ction movie. No previous fi lmmaking experience required. Premier<br />
showing of all fi lms produced in the camps will be shown the evening of<br />
August 26 at a red carpet event for families and friends. Location and<br />

Studio Production<br />
Would you like to be on the telly? This is your opportunity. ..3..2..1<br />
Action! Learn how to direct, produce and shoot a TV show at Portland<br />
Community Media studio using HD equipment, including switcher,<br />
teleprompter and character generator. Have fun while learning to<br />
operate TV cameras and audio equipment in this weeklong workshop.<br />
Manage the studio fl oor and/or serve as host. Pick a topic and produce<br />
a program that will be broadcast online and on channel POP29 Comcast.<br />
No previous experience required. Bus transportation to and from the<br />
Portland Youth Media Center. Premier showing of all fi lms produced in<br />
the camps will be shown the evening of August 26 at a red carpet event<br />

Editing Final Cut Pro<br />
In this workshop participants will explore concepts of editing while<br />
developing a basic understanding of Apple’s Final Cut Pro editing<br />
software. Students will learn the basics of capturing video/audio, project<br />
management, trimming sequences, video generating, creating titles.<br />
Workshop participants work on individual MacBook Pro laptops. Premier<br />
showing of all fi lms produced in the camps will be shown the evening of<br />
August 26 at a red carpet event for families and friends. Location and<br />
