Scope of Work for the Removal of Identified Designated Substances<br />

City of <strong>Niagara</strong> <strong>Falls</strong> – <strong>6121</strong> Lundy’s <strong>Lane</strong>, <strong>Niagara</strong> <strong>Falls</strong>, ON<br />

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND RESPIRATORY PROTECTION - ASBESTOS ABATEMENT:<br />

Protective clothing shall be provided by the employer and worn by every worker who enters the work<br />

area(s). The protective clothing shall:<br />

1. Be made of material that does not readily retain nor permit penetration of asbestos fibres<br />

2. Consist of head covering and full body covering that fits snugly at the ankles, wrists and neck, in<br />

order to prevent asbestos fibres from reaching the garments and skin under the protective<br />

clothing<br />

3. Include suitable footwear<br />

4. Be repaired or replaced if torn<br />

The employer shall provide every worker who will enter the work area(s) with a NIOSH approved<br />

respirator in accordance with the general requirements for respirators outlined in Section 13 and Table<br />

2 of O. Reg. 278/05 (as amended) and the worker shall wear and use the respirator.<br />

SPECIFIC MEASURES AND PROCEEDURES FOR PROJECT - SILICA ABATEMENT:<br />

The generation of silica-containing airborne dust should be controlled by thoroughly wetting the area<br />

prior to and during the drilling or cutting operations and during the loading, scraping or moving.<br />

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND RESPIRATORY PROTECTION - SILICA ABATEMENT:<br />

A NIOSH approved respirator for Type 2 silica operations in accordance with respirator requirements as<br />

outlined in Table 1: Respirator Requirement of Guideline – Silica on Construction Projects.<br />

WASTE TRANSPORT AND DISPOSAL<br />

Conform to requirements outlined in <strong>Ontario</strong> Regulation 347 – General – Waste Management (as<br />

amended) for waste management, transporting and disposal of hazardous waste.<br />

Ensure shipment of containers to dump is taken by waste hauler licensed to transport hazardous waste.<br />

Retain receipt of disposal and submit to owner as proof of disposal.<br />

PROJECT CLOSEOUT<br />

Polyethylene sheeting, seals, tape, cleaning material, clothing, and other contaminated waste is to be<br />

disposed of in waste containers suitable for the type of waste, impervious to the waste intended for and<br />

clearly identified and included for hazardous waste.<br />

The contractor is to conduct a final visual inspection of the work area(s) to ensure all types of dust or<br />

debris is not visually evident.
