SPORT FOOTBALL 18 Academy Review, 2010/11 YC&AC Football Academy Head Coach Mike Yeomans offers this review of the Club’s younger teams’ season. It has been nine months since I started working with and coaching the YC&AC football program and I can gladly say that already we are seeing some major progress with the players on the field. This has been reflected in the overall results we have achieved in the matches we have played since last October. Of the thirty or so mini matches (8 v 8) that we have played, we have lost only five or six, and count among our victories a win over a Yokohama F. Marinos U10 team. That is quite a good record, I’m sure you will agree. Thus far we have established programs for the U8, U10 and U12 age groups. Our numbers are gradually increasing with each passing month, although the recent tragic events in the Tohoku region may have prevented us from making further progress in this regard. We will continue to work on increasing our numbers once we resume our program after the summer break. We also plan to open a program for the U15 age group from August in order to expand the Club’s football offering still further. Every Sunday morning throughout the season we worked on balance and coordination, and the development of technique, through the use of skill drills and games. We also worked on tactical YC&AC CONNECT August 2011 positioning, awareness and team shape during competitive matches. We develop the players through the use of small-sided matches with small-sized junior goals. This ensures all the players have plenty of touches of the ball and the opportunity to try out any new skills they have learned. Looking Forward Next season we hope to further build upon the foundation that has been put in place this year. We also hope to bring on board another qualified coach to assist, improve and expand the program still further. We would also like to introduce periodic skills testing for each player, culminating in the presentation of a Player Personal Final Report detailing the progress made over the year for each child. Each report would contain the test results from throughout the year, a graph break down of each skill tested, and a coach’s comments section advising areas for improvement while always highlighting the positive things achieved. Meet Mike Hi everybody, my name is Mike Yeomans and I am the head coach at the YC&AC Football Academy. I would like to give you all a little background information on my qualifications and experience to help show what I bring to the football program here at our unique and wonderful club. Coaching Experience My first coaching appointment was with the British Football Academy in Tokyo, where I coached fulltime from September 2006 until March of 2008. I coached juniors from ages 6–16 years of age and ladies’ senior football. From March 2008 to June 2009 I was employed full-time by Total Football, a coaching resource company and grassroots associates for Nike Football (Japan). This meant I got to tour the Japanese schools and coach high school teams and clubs as part of the Nike Football community coaching program. I also had the good fortune to work with football academies from the JLeague, namely Yokohama F. Marinos FC and Urawa Reds FC, and some of the world’s biggest football academies, including those of Barcelona, Manchester United, Valencia and Glasgow Celtic. On Saturdays I run a junior and senior football program at Yamate Orient Football Club, which is based at Saint Maur International School. Although it is still too early to talk about the end of the summer, it is never too early to talk about a party! On Saturday, August 27, we are going to beat the heat with an evening of games, food, fun, and prizes. This is an evening to be enjoyed by all, regardless of age or interests, and a perfect way to say sayonara to the summer season! We all know it is impossible to have a proper Pool Party without fine food fare to feast on. So, with that in mind, our chefs will be preparing a super-delicious BBQ Buffet that will taste as good as it smells! As anticipated, this night will also feature the many games, activities and entertainment we have in store, for kids and adults! Everyone, get involved and enjoy! Are you a sea captain in hiding? Maybe better with your wits than your fins? Whether you are an aquanaut, or an aqua-NOT, you can be a part of the entertainment, and also be entertained during the many activities we have in store for you! All of our activities are fully supervised with safety at the forefront of our minds. So, feel free to let loose, feast, and enjoy the night to the fullest! All the best, and see you at the party!
