6 Der Mittlere Osten Die Länder am Persischen Golf sind dabei, nicht mehr nur ihre wertvollen Rohstoffe Erdöl und Erdgas zu verkaufen, sondern wollen selbst von deren Weiterverarbeitung profitieren und erweitern deshalb die dazu nötige Industrie. Laut einer McKinsey-Studie soll die Region bis zum Jahr 2010 Westeuropa und den USA den Rang als wichtigster petrochemischer Produzent ablaufen. Da aber auch abzusehen ist, dass sich die Erdölvorräte erschöpfen, investieren diese Länder, um in anderen Industrie- und Wirtschaftsbereichen Marktanteile zu gewinnen. Die Wirtschaftszeitung „Handelsblatt“ zitierte Anfang Februar 2007 Jürgen Thumann, den Präsidenten des Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Industrie (BDI), wie folgt: „Allein die im Jahr 2006 in den Golfstaaten begonnenen und geplanten Projekte haben ein Gesamtvolumen von über 600 Mrd. US$.“ Alle Projekte, die auch zahlreiche ausländische Investoren anziehen, bedeuten ein starkes Wachstum für die Drahtund Kabelindustrie. Zu den Produkten, die sehr stark gefragt sind, gehören Kabel für die Gebäude-Installation sowie Mittel- und Hochspannungskabel, vor allem für Frei leitungen. NIEHOFF, der Mittlere Osten und NME NIEHOFF pflegt seit langem gute und enge Beziehungen zu Draht- und Kabelherstellern in den Ländern des Mittleren Ostens. Bis zur Gründung von NME erfolgte die Betreuung der dortigen Kunden vom Stammhaus in Schwabach aus. Hans-Joachim Melcher, der dafür zuständige Mitarbeiter, wird im kommenden Jahr in den Ruhestand gehen. Seine Nachfolge übernimmt Michael Dalal, der als Managing Director von NME direkt vor Ort sein wird. The office is called NIEHOFF of Middle East (NME) and headed by Michael Dalal. the year 2010, leaving behind Western Europe and the USA. However, as it is assumed that petroleum resources will start to run out in the foreseeable future, these countries are investing in new areas in order to gain market shares in other industries and fields of business. At the start of February 2007, the German business newspaper ”Handelsblatt“ quoted Jürgen Thumann, the President of the German industry association BDI, as saying that “the projects started and planned in 2006 in the Gulf States alone have a total value of more than US$ 600 billion.“ All of these projects, which also attract numerous foreign investors, mean strong growth for the wire and cable industry. Some of the products which are in great demand include building wire and medium and high voltage cables for overhead lines in particular. NIEHOFF, Middle East and NME NIEHOFF has long maintained good and close relationships with wire and cable manufacturers in the countries of the Middle East. Prior to the foundation of NME, customer service was provided from the headquarters in Schwabach, Germany. Hans-Joachim Melcher, who is responsible for this area, will retire next year. His successor is Michael Dalal, who will be working directly in the office as the Managing Director of NME. Michael Dalal was born in Lebanon and is highly familiar with the language and customs of the Arab world. He is married with three children. NIEHOFF of Middle East (NME) is responsible for the following countries: Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. It is also planned for a service engineer to become part of NME.
Stand high and see far Zhenxiong Copper Group Corporation, P.R China The headquarters of the Zhenxiong Copper Group Corporation Rise and expansion The headquarters and main factory were built in March 1997 on a site measuring 180,000 m² – an asset now worth in excess of US$ 12 million. More than 2000 people are employed at this production site alone. Today, the group has four factories in China and one office in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. A further factory is currently being built in Thailand (see below). The total production capacity amounts to 100,000 tons of copper conductors per year. Production The Zhenxiong Copper Group, which was accredited according to the ISO 9002 quality standard in February 2003, manufactures copper conductors primarily in the 0.05 – 0.50 mm diameter range. The company’s range of products includes bare copper wire, copper alloy wire, tin-plated, silverplated and nickel-plated copper wire as well as stranded wire. The products are mostly used in the automotive industry, as well as in information, communication and telecommunication technology and other electronics applications. The bulk of the products is sold to domestic companies, but the export share is growing. Zhenxiong works together with leading Japanese companies and supplies international companies like Nexans, Hitachi Cable and Suzuyo. The headquarters of the Zhenxiong Copper Group Corporation is located in Kunshan, a city with one million inhabitants situated in the southeast of the Jiangsu Province near Shanghai. The company which was founded in October 1996 is now the biggest fine wire copper conductor manufacturer in mainland China and one of the top 500 leading Chinese private companies. Corporate culture Zhenxiong has adapted business processes to match standard international practices. Production facilities have been brought right up to date with modern machinery, and a training center and a number of leisure facilities for employees have been built. The holistic concept behind these measures is described in company brochure with the guiding principles ”Space Leap, Challenge the Utmost” & “Stand High (Tall) and See Far, Complete Sincerity”. The success of these endeavors is reflected in the leading market position of the company and its credit rating of AAA, the highest rating available. MMH multiwire drawing machine Ambitious plans Plans are under way at Zhenxiong for a US$ 300 million investment to build ”Zhenxiong Industrial Park“ in Huaqiao Town. This will incorporate an entire process chain – including the processing of raw materials for copper conductor production, wire and cable manufacturing and the manufacturing of products like electronic wiring harnesses. Jin Zhenrong, President of the Zhenxiong Copper Group Corporation, wants even more: he aims to increase copper conductor production to 400,000 tons by 2008, an amount which corresponds to half of the total production in China. Factory project in Thailand One major step towards this goal is the construction of a new factory in Thailand. One of the key project partners is the NIEHOFF Group which will install a high-speed rod breakdown line in the new factory with a WPT 400 type inline galvanic tinning line as well as ten MMH-series multiwire drawing machines which can produce wires with a final diameter of down to 0.05 mm. The factory, which is designed for a capacity of 20,000 tons per year, will be operational next year and is intended to serve the markets outside China.
