On Parent<strong>in</strong>g<br />

From a book entitled God’s Little Devotional book <strong>for</strong> Dads<br />

(But moms can learn from it too!!)<br />

Happy is <strong>the</strong> child who happens <strong>in</strong> upon his parent from ti<strong>me</strong> to ti<strong>me</strong> to see him on his<br />

knees,….or go<strong>in</strong>g aside regularly, to keep ti<strong>me</strong>s with <strong>the</strong> Lord.<br />

“Let <strong>the</strong> <strong>hear</strong>t of <strong>the</strong>m rejoice that seek <strong>the</strong> Lord, seek <strong>the</strong> Lord and His strength; seek His face<br />

evermore” - Psalm 205:3,4<br />

“You must have a good <strong>hear</strong>t,” one man said to his child,” if you are go<strong>in</strong>g to act right <strong>in</strong> this<br />

world.” And <strong>the</strong>n <strong>in</strong> illustrat<strong>in</strong>g his po<strong>in</strong>t he cont<strong>in</strong>ued, “Suppose my watch was <strong>not</strong> keep<strong>in</strong>g ti<strong>me</strong><br />

very well. Would it do any good if I went to <strong>the</strong> town clock, and made <strong>the</strong> hands of my watch<br />

po<strong>in</strong>t exactly <strong>the</strong> sa<strong>me</strong> as those of <strong>the</strong> larger clock <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> square? No, of course <strong>not</strong>!! Soon my<br />

watch <strong>would</strong> be just as <strong>in</strong>accurate as be<strong>for</strong>e. Ra<strong>the</strong>r, I should take my watch to a watchmaker, or<br />

to a jewelry store that repairs watches. It is only when my watch has been cleaned and repaired<br />

that its hands will be able to keep ti<strong>me</strong> accurately all day long.”<br />

When we spend ti<strong>me</strong> <strong>in</strong> prayer, we are, <strong>in</strong> like manner, go<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> Heart Maker, ask<strong>in</strong>g Him to<br />

“clean and repair our <strong>hear</strong>ts” from <strong>the</strong> damage caused by s<strong>in</strong>s we have committed. We are ask<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Him to put us right aga<strong>in</strong> on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>side, so that we can more clearly discern right from<br />

wrong. When our children see us do<strong>in</strong>g this, <strong>the</strong>y are much more likely to go to <strong>the</strong> Heart Maker<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y feel <strong>the</strong>ir own lives <strong>in</strong> disarray or “out of sync” – ra<strong>the</strong>r than turn to <strong>the</strong> world and reset<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir souls accord<strong>in</strong>g to its standards and priorities.<br />

There are many ways to <strong>me</strong>asure success; <strong>not</strong> <strong>the</strong> least of which is <strong>the</strong> way your child describes<br />

you when talk<strong>in</strong>g to a friend.<br />

Two little boys were discuss<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir lives one day, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> various behavioral patterns of<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir parents. One boy f<strong>in</strong>ally asked, “Does your Daddy sit <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> den a lot after he co<strong>me</strong>s ho<strong>me</strong><br />

from work?<br />

“No,” his friend replied, “he growls all over <strong>the</strong> place at our house.”
