possessed felid characters in the basicranial<br />

area (Hunt and Tedford, 1993).<br />

The petrosal bone and its promontorial<br />

process are preserved in the tympanic bulla<br />

region on the left side (figs. 2b, 3). Although<br />

the petrosal has been nudged in a caudal direction<br />

by the crushing, facets for its articulation<br />

with the ectotympanic can be seen on<br />
