Area cyclists can still register<br />
for Make-A-Wish bike tour<br />
More than 140 cycling enthusiasts<br />
have signed up for the 300mile,<br />
three-day sixth annual<br />
Wish-A-Mile (WAM) 300 Bicycle'<br />
Tour Aug. 13-15. but there's room<br />
for more.<br />
Cyclers from <strong>Canton</strong>, Livonia<br />
and Plymouth are among those<br />
signed up for the tour which is a<br />
fundraiser for Make-A-Wish<br />
Foundation of Michigan, a charity<br />
that fulfills wishes of children<br />
ages 3 to 17 who suffer from lifethreatening<br />
illnesses.<br />
The three-day tour of Michigan's<br />
Lower Peninsula begins<br />
Aug. 13 at St. Ignace, north of the<br />
Mackinac Bridge and winds its<br />
way through Mackinaw City, Gaylord,<br />
Roscommon. Midland and<br />
Whit more Lake and ends from 1-<br />
7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 in Plym-<br />

The event, "Make-A-Wish<br />
Foundation of Michigan and<br />
M1DA Dental Plans Present:<br />
WAM 300 1993 Bicycle Tour"<br />
seeks 200 riders to raise $177,000<br />
in pledges. MIDA Dental Plans<br />
Inc. of Southfield is the official<br />
sponsor.<br />
Riders with the highest amount<br />
in pledges will vie for prizes ranging<br />
from trips for two to Jamaica,<br />
St. Thomas and Orlando to a television<br />
set and VCR.<br />
Riders will register in Plymouth<br />
Aug. 12 and travel by bus for<br />
the start north of the Mackinac<br />
Bridge. Registration fee is $3.<br />
Each rider must raise a minimum<br />
of $500 in pledges.<br />
Local riders include: Mark<br />
Bartlett, Charles Judy, Arthur<br />
Nolan, Frank Szalma, Robert Polzin<br />
and Bernie Polzin all of <strong>Canton</strong><br />
Township. Plymouth area<br />
cyclers include Fred Poskie and<br />
Eric Joseph. Livonians signed up<br />
for the tour include Brendan Dillon,<br />
Jim Hill, A1 Peterson, Steven<br />
Katz and Gary Plank.<br />
Highlights of ceremonies that<br />
honor bicyclists who ride 300<br />
miles to raise funds for Make-A-<br />
Wish include appearances by Fox<br />
TV star Gabrielle Carteris, clowns<br />
and face painters and performances<br />
by the Birmingham/<br />
Bloomfield Symphony Trio, the<br />
<strong>Canton</strong> Seniors Kitchen Band,<br />
Neil Woodward bluegrass band<br />
and the Derrik Snyder string<br />
quartet.<br />
Food and refreshments will be<br />
available.<br />
