was remarkable to see them turn fast laps late in the main<br />
just shy of their Qualifying efforts. In the S1 class, it was Leesman<br />
again emerging the victor, but Halen’s impressive showing shined<br />
bright. On his CRG, Halen turned an identical fast lap as Leesman<br />
of 56.424 in the main, which is no easy feat. Look for Halen to<br />
show well at the ’07 SuperNationals; however, look for the Fritzer<br />
to be a Vegas odds- maker favorite to win, come November.<br />
S1/G1 <strong>Racing</strong> Action by FX RACING/<br />
TRACKMAGIC/RLV<br />
S1 saw Leesman in the top spot followed by Halen and Nick<br />
Brinkman. Brink is back on a Tony Kart and a lot happier<br />
to boot. At least we think so! Nick is a tough<br />
read!<br />
In G1 it was PP Mastro<br />
showing well. Well enough<br />
to now go to Moran in<br />
September and “Sunday von Zeipel<br />
drive it” for the<br />
Championship in the<br />
class. Yeah, like that’s<br />
his style. Mastro is<br />
what kart racing over<br />
age 35 is supposed to<br />
be about. Here’s a guy<br />
who brings his B game to<br />
the starting line all the time. Yep,<br />
B game. See, his A game is off the track.<br />
A genuine guy with a great attitude, he’s all about camaraderie<br />
first and on-track action second. He may dispute this, but it sure<br />
seems like he races for the fun of it, not the glory. He defines the<br />
G class in every way possible. Of course it goes without saying<br />
that Mastro’s B game is light years ahead of others’ A games. Troy<br />
Butts brought home second place and Machado third (he had<br />
fast lap in the main). Nick Firestone, who in Santa Maria drove<br />
from last to second, also performed better than his result here<br />

Musgrave<br />
showed. He’s another good<br />
guy with one heck of a shiny Tony<br />
Kart. Thanks for always making the trip out, Nick.<br />
S2/G2 <strong>Racing</strong> Action by HITCHHIKER/KELLER-<br />
WILLIAMS.<br />
S2 saw Craig Caringella, Eric Ortega and Cameron Parsons in<br />
the top three spots. And it’s read that way all season. It’s likely that<br />
PKC will fold the S2 class next year into S1, as the skill break at<br />
this level simply is no longer necessary. These three are top pilots<br />
-- needing to hone their skills at a higher level to improve. G2<br />
suffers a similar identity crisis, as well. It’s really<br />
a class that should be combined with<br />
G1, based on the fact that all<br />
participants have years<br />
of experience and are<br />
terrific drivers. The<br />
numbers are huge,<br />
but so is the talent.<br />
That said, leave it<br />
to PKC to decide<br />
where the G classes<br />
are headed in the offseason,<br />
but not without<br />
putting it first to the drivers<br />
to vote on in the off-season. Brad<br />
Dhesi took another convincing win, and<br />
that’s no shocker as Dhesi is as quick as they come.<br />
Wally Wright overcame a measurable amount of controversy to<br />
place second and Steve Donia took third…but the real story was<br />
the attrition and a controversial call during the race. Dan Aspesi<br />
was black-flagged for an infraction with a left rear tire, though<br />
according to Aspesi it was unfounded; also contributing to his<br />
DNF was the flagman that stepped in his way -- to avoid him,<br />
Aspesi swerved and damaged the kart. Also out of the main for<br />
various incidents: Jim Barnes (who lead the first few laps), Mark<br />
Quackenbus<br />
