The story of BOEN is a story of nature. With deep roots
stretching back to as early as 1641, our proud hardwood
heritage is founded on two operating sawmills by the
crystal clear waterfall near BOEN Bruk, Kristiansand,
in the southern tip of Norway.
Since the middle of the 17th century, the people of BOEN
have constantly brought forward our rich history of innovation
and authentic craftsmanship.
One basic principle, however, has over time remained at
the very heart of BOEN’s culture and history: respect for
nature and her refined resources.

BOEN flooring is a product of natural materials. Respect for
nature and for the requirement of environmental sustainability
is reflected in our processing and management of
raw materials. BOEN constantly seeks methods for processing
the raw materials in the most gentle and sustainable
manner possible.
The raw materials processed at BOEN come from sustainable
forests. Above that, the BOEN factories have implemented
a chain of custody system in accordance with
the FSC standards. The Forest Stewardship Council is a
well known forest certification scheme.
BOEN FSC license numbers are: BOEN Norway FSC C051117,
BOEN Germany FSC C101713, BOEN Lithuania FSC C021510,
BOEN UK FSC C047288, BOEN US FSC C095158.

BOEN’s production methods are noted for their quality and
excellent use of resources. The timber is quickly transported
to the saw mill and cut, so that the drying process can start
as soon as possible, thereby avoiding discoloration. The
wood is dried under monitored conditions. This allows us to
guarantee the highest degree of stability for our floors.
Multi-layer hardwood flooring provides considerable
savings in resources compared to solid hardwood flooring.
The use of hardwood is limited to the wear layer. Threefifths
of our parquet is based on spruce and pine woods.
Sawn and planed chips are bi-products that occur naturally
and are used in the factory’s heating systems for the drying
kilns, hot water supply and fuel pellets.
The German Blue Angel label has been awarded to BOEN
confirming that our manufacturing methods produce
minimal amounts of waste gas and consequently contribute
to a good interior climate.

Classical corner or herringbone pattern?
A BOEN one-strip Prestige parquet floor may be laid in a
regular pattern or randomly – for instance, as a classical
corner-marked pattern or a herringbone pattern in a single,
double or triple design, diagonally or parallel to the wall. An
additional margin will automatically result from the
combination of types of wood in any possible pattern.
PRESTIGE
The diversity in strip lengths, types of wood and patterns
makes the Prestige, one-strip parquet flooring individual
and successful.

Traffic is a durable variety in the BOEN Prestige
range, and is ideal for high-use areas. Traffic comes
with an additional 6 mm top layer for extra strength

BOEN Chalet is a durable three-layer construction with
a wear layer of approximately 4.5 mm. All floors are
available in widths from 200 mm to 395 mm. The lengths
of boards vary from 2 to 4 metres. BOEN Chalet is available
in eight different surface treatments from traditional,
natural oak colour to stained and brushed finishes.
We would be happy to help you with flooring design
ideas for each room by providing drawings. In offering this
service, we would seek the optimal combination of different
widths and lengths of boards. Only when you and your
customer are satisfied with the suggested designs will

Enjoy the fascinating characteristics and longevity of solid
oak planks – an exclusive, Zen-inspired ambience of warmth
and tranquillity.
Solid oak plank is 20 mm thick and is produced in widths of
137 mm, 162 mm and 187 mm. Choose between five different
surfaces, each with a deeply textured aged or rustic charm
for that casual comfort. You may also create your own floor
by combining various widths and mixes of, for example,
Antique and Historical.

The classic variant. Simple and rustic with filled knots.
ANTIQUE
Thanks to the stained surface the board exudes the
charm of naturally matured wood.
HISTORICAL
As rustic as a board flooring aged a century long. The
knots are replaced manually by oak plugs of irregular
shape. The surface is antique stained.

The brushed surface is stained with a deep dark shade

STONEWASHED OLD GREY

from smoked oak, which preserves the

BOEN DesignDeck has seams, but no
wooden nails. You may also design
your own floor by combining other
BOEN plank wood types with compatible
aluminium seams.

surface treatments
BOEN places considerable emphasis on protecting the environment
during all phases of production. Neither lacquer nor oil emit gases
which are harmful to humans or to the environment. BOEN offers its
customers a wide range of surface finishes.

Protect-Ultra – sealed floorings
Protect-Ultra is a very hard-wearing and extremely
scratch resistant lacquer, available in a silk matt
finish. Protect-Ultra is free from solvents and formaldehyde
and guarantees a clear, unclouded finish on the natural
surface of the wood. We offer a comprehensive maintenance
system with a parquet refresher and parquet polish
and cleaners.
Matt lacquered
The effect of matt lacquer resembles an oiled floor.
Matt lacquer provides the same hard-wearing
surface as Protect-Ultra, but with less shine – a natural look
combined with the advantages of a scratch resistant seal.
Bona Polish Matt should be used to maintain this finish.
Ecoline – oiled floorings
Ecoline is an oil that is cured by UV light. The oil contains
sunflower oil, soya oil, carnauba wax and bees
wax to give a gleaming silk matt surface. It is free from
emission substances and is therefore particularly suitable
for people who suffer from allergies from bio-hygienic
properties as provided for in Norway’s RAL-GR 430 regulations.
It is certified by the ECO, Institut für Ökologie in
Cologne.
Natural Oil – oiled floorings
These floorings are finished at our factory using
naturally hardening oxidative oil. Natural Oil
accentuates the character of the wood, providing a natural
feel of the parquet surface and is free from biocide active
substances and conditioners. Osmo Oil or an equivalent
product should be used for maintenance.

stained surfaces
BOEN has developed colours to suit various
interior designs. To meet the demand for lighter
and darker shades, BOEN offers a range of
stained products in which oak and ash are the
main types of wood used.
Staining
Dark stained parquet floorings are a very attractive
alternative to exotic woods. In the light stained product
the wood grain is smoother and thus generates an evensurface
look. Stained products are normally lacquered
with Protect-Ultra silk matt or matt lacquer.
White pigment
White pigmentation is used to tone down the coloration
in the wood and create a modern appearance. BOEN mainly
uses matt lacquer combined with white pigmentation.
Bona “Polish Matt” should be used for the maintenance of
white pigmented matt lacquer surfaces.
Smoked and steamed
By smoking the parquet boards a particularly warm shade
of colour is generated. With the addition of staining or
oiling, we are able to offer a large range of natural colours,
such as those in our Stonewashed Collection. By slightly
brushing the wood, the colour becomes more ingrained.
Brushing of the wood
Brushing the wood surface is used together with staining
to enhance its structure. The surface can be either lacquered
or oiled using clear or coloured oil, as is seen in the Stonewashed
Collection. The original character of the wood is
accentuated and the year rings are emphasized.

Antique look
BOEN offers a range of solid and engineered plank with
an Antique look. Behind these products lies a unique
combination of craftsmanship and selected raw materials.
The surface treatment is a mix of light brushing, staining,
sanding and coloured oil.

cleaning and
maintenance
For day-to-day cleaning it is enough to remove dust and dirt
with a mop, broom or vacuum cleaner.
If it is necessary to wipe the floor, use the appropriate
cleaning product for the type of flooring. Never pour
water onto your parquet floor as the wood might swell
and damage the floor. With regular use a cleaning agent
acts as a natural moisturizing agent and the floor
surface will become more resistant to soiling and the
appearance of wear.
The cleaning products are adapted to the various
surface treatments. As a general rule lacquered floors
should be cleaned with synthetic cleaner (with no grease
content) whereas oiled floors should be cleaned with soap
(containing grease).
Our maintenance products for both lacquered and oiled
floors are of the highest quality.

Hardwood is a living substance. As wood is a hygroscopic
and natural product, it assimilates and emits water.
It must adapt its internal moisture content to the relative
humidity of its environment.

Wood exists with its surroundings
Our aim in developing our parquet floors is to reduce the
hygroscopic forces and the movement of the wood to a
minimum. We cannot eliminate those effects completely,
but we can reduce them to a minimum. How do we
achieve this?
The precisely engineered three-layer structure of our
parquet planks – made up of an underlay, intermediate
middle layer and the surface layer of finest quality
wood – cancels out the natural effects by draw and
counterdraw. The carefully selected planks will considerably
reduce swelling and contraction. BOEN stable

High relative humidity
This diagram shows how solid wood expands if the
relative humidity is high. The wood expands in a convex
way and the pressure on the joins is noticeable. Even
when solid wood boards dry, they never return to their
original form.

This diagram shows how solid wood shrinks if the relative
humidity is low or the sub-floor is damp. The solid nonstabilized
plank will shrink in a concave fashion. If the wood
dries and becomes damp again, the joins will fail to return
to their original form as the wood’s flexibility is constantly
deteriorating.

Glued, nailed or floating? Parquet can be installed on most
types of flooring. Problems such as uneven sub-flooring,
moisture, sound proofing etc., can be resolved with the help
of technical expertise from BOEN’s sales and service team.
Underfloor heating
BOEN hardwood flooring is an ideal floor covering to place
above underfloor heating systems.
A properly functioning underfloor heating system – hot
water or electrical – results in optimal thermal distribution
throughout the area to be heated, giving maximum
comfort. It is therefore necessary for the floor covering to
have efficient thermal conductivity – i.e. low resistance
to heat transmission. A glued down floor allows greater
heat transference than does a floating system.

The underfloor heating system must be regulated to
ensure a maximum effect of 60W/m2 with a sub-floor
surface temperature not exceeding 27ºC (83ºF), with a
room temperature of 20–22ºC (68–72ºF). Relative humidity
should be maintained between 30–60%. Heat must be
evenly distributed under the hardwood flooring. Carpets
with an insulating effect must not be used on the floor as
this accumulates heat.
Underfloor heating systems often result in slightly more
movement in hardwood flooring, and the formation of
some cracks while heating is being used must be expected
if moisture is not supplied to the surrounding air.

Installation for the various options
Laying a floating floor is the most common method used in
private houses and flats, although nailing or gluing the floor
to the sub-floor are good alternatives. In public buildings we
recommend gluing the floor to the sub-floor.

accessory and the correct cleaning and care will make
your parquet flooring perfect.
A beautiful and functional parquet floor will only be
optimal with the correct accessories to ensure correct
installation as well as top finish. BOEN offers parquet
underlayment, correct installation tools and a full range
of various skirting, mouldings and stair nosing. BOEN
also offers cleaning and maintenance products for the
daily care of the floor.
When installing a floating floor, it is important to use
correct underlay mat. The density in the underlay mat is
essential especially when installing Clic solutions (gluefree
tongue/ groove solutions). If the floor shall be glued
to the sub-floor, BOEN has the correct solution for priming
and gluing be it wood - or concrete sub-floor.

come from 150 to 200 years old oak trees
from the Baltic States. We will develop for

The 3-layer oak wood boards have the classic
structure of high quality multi layer parquet
flooring made of a sub layer and middle layer

sides have a milled groove and loose tongues.

A technical checklist for professional customers
It is helpful for all concerned when all aspects of
the flooring in a building project are considered
before starting the project. BOEN recommends a
pre-construction investigation and, if the project in
question is large, even laying a test floor.

Choose between lacquered, matt lacquered
and oiled surfaces
PROTECT ULTRA
Protect Ultra is a very hard-wearing and extremely scratch
resistant lacquer, available in a silk matt finish. It is cured
by UV light and does not emit any dangerous chemicals or
gasses. We offer a comprehensive maintenance system with
parquet refresher or parquet polish and cleaners.
MATT LACqUER
The effect of matt lacquer resembles an oiled floor.
Matt lacquer provides the same hard-wearing surface
as Protect Ultra, but with less shine. Bona Polish Matt
should be used to maintain this finish.
ECOLINE
Ecoline is an oil that is cured by UV light. It contains sunflower
oil, soya oil, carnauba wax and bees wax. The surface
does not emit any dangerous chemicals or gasses.
BOEN Floor Soap and Oil Freshen Up should be used for
cleaning and maintaining.
NATURAL OIL
Natural oil is an oxidising oil which is cured with the
help of the oxygen in the air. It is absorbed deep into the
wood and offers greater protection. Use Osmo Oil or an
equivalent product to maintain this finish.
WHITE PIGMENT
White pigmentation is used to tone down the colour in
the wood and create a modern look. BOEN normally uses
matt lacquer in combination with white pigmentation.
Bona Polish Matt should be used to maintain white pigmented
matt lacquer surfaces.
BRUSHING
Brushing is used in conjunction with staining to enhance
the structure of the wood. The surface can be lacquered
or oiled.
STAINING
BOEN has developed coloured stains to suit a range of
interior designs. There is increased consumer interest
in dark, warm colours and these products can replicate
colours found in varieties of tropical wood. Stained
products are usually lacquered with silk matt or matt
lacquer.

METHODS Of INSTALLATION
Glued, nailed or floating?
Parquet can be installed on most types of flooring
– from mature wood to new concrete. Problems such
as uneven sub-flooring, moisture, dry air and soundproofing
can be resolved with the help of technical
expertise from BOEN’s sales and service team. BOEN
delivers parquet that is suitable for gluing down or
nailing, or in the form of self-supporting parquet
laid on joists or as floating parquet for use with or
without the clic system.
SOUND PROOfING
A floating floor should be considered if it is necessary to
reduce sound to the lower floors. BOEN also has a type
of acoustic matting for sound proofing in, for example,
apartment buildings. If clearer sound with low reverberation
is required in the room, gluing the parquet to the
sub-floor is the best solution.
fLOOR HEATING
A glued floor allows more heat transference than does
a floating floor. Floor heating must be thermostatically
controlled and installed so that it provides an even heat
load over the whole surface. Beech and Maple parquet
are sensitive to heat and should not be used with floor
heating. We would also recommend not using solid wood
with heated flooring.
TIP:
Carpets with a reverse side of rubber or other dense
material should not be used on parquet with floor
heating. The heat becomes isolated under the carpet and
can damage the floor.
We recommend that the floor be glued down to
the sub-flooring in public buildings, hotels, airports,
offices and similar, where there is heavy traffic.
In private homes, the floating method is the general
method of installation, but nailing and gluing to the
sub-floor is also a good alternative.

Advantages:
• quick and easy to install
• Easier to insulate against sound transmission by impact
• Can be installed on most types of self-supporting sub-floor

• The limited size of the area that can be installed before the
floor has to be divided up
• The floor must be able to move, so walls should not be
mounted on the floor
• The floor must be divided between rooms
• The sub-flooring must be completely level and even
• High room resonance, especially in connection with effective
insulation against the sound of footsteps
NAILING OR ScREWING TO JOISTS AND BATTENS
(23 mm, 21 mm Strongline, 20 mm Solid Wood)
Advantages of nailing/screwing to joists/battens:
• Saves on sub-flooring
• Can be installed continuously between rooms
• Walls can be mounted onto the floor
Disadvantages:
• Relatively high room resonance and
impact sound transmission
GLUING TO THE SUB-fLOOR
(10 mm Prestige, 12 mm Traffic, 15 mm, 21 mm Strongline,
20 mm Solid Wood Plank, 8 mm Mosaic parquet,
23 mm Industrial parquet)
Advantages with gluing:
• The floor is very stable
• The floor is more tolerant to fluctuations in climate
• Good acoustics in the room
• Can be installed in large areas, and continuously between rooms,
without having to be divided up
Disadvantages:
• A long drying period is required when used with concrete
– It must be dried to RH 65%
• Floor sheeting should be installed diagonally (at 45o) in
relation to the parquet
• Higher installation costs
• Higher impact sound transmission

A BEAUTIfUL fLOOR YEAR AfTER YEAR
Cleaning and Maintenance
Parquet from BOEN has been treated
with the most up-to-date and hardwearing
products, but it should still be
maintained from time to time – how
often depends on the surface and the
amount of wear and tear, especially in
public buildings.
BOEN recommends dry mopping and
vacuuming for daily cleaning of all
types of floor. When washing the floor
becomes necessary, it is important that
a minimum amount of water is used
together with a cleaning product
suitable for oiled and lacquered
floors. Water should never be allowed
to remain on the parquet to dry.
A floor treated with oil requires more
frequent maintenance than a lacquered
floor, and should be treated every
other year. It is not necessary to treat
the whole floor on each occasion:
smaller areas can be treated without
leaving visible marks. Lacquered floors
should be maintained every four or
five years.

Spot-light on stable flooring
STABILITY IS A kEY WORD IN
BOEN’S PRODUcTION.
Wood is affected by temperature and
humidity and its volume is constantly
changing. It absorbs and emits moisture
and adapts to fit its surroundings. For wood
flooring to remain stable, it is important
that there are no large fluctuations in
temperature and humidity.
The majority of BOEN’s floors are made up
of three layers which are glued together.
The top layer is made of hardwood, while the
middle and bottom layers are of softwood.
This construction significantly minimizes
shrinkage and swelling during fluctuations
in climatic conditions compared to the
movement that takes place in solid wood
flooring. This construction allows the floor
lie in a stable position in a climate with a
moisture content of between 30% and 60%.
TIP: Shrinkage and the formation of cracks
in the wood can be avoided by introducing
moisture into the air. Use a humidifier or
simply place a container with water on a
source of heat.

We are dealing with three layers. The BOEN planks
are three-layer parquet floorings. Very stable and
quite environmentally conscious.

Intermediate layer: 7.5 mm.

In good shape!
Due to the exactly dimensioned design of sub-layer,
middle-layer and top-layer, the natural strengths will
cancel out each other by draw and counter draw. The
“hygroscopic” forces the per-formance of the wood is
reduced to a minimum.

Surface technique
By focusing on stability and durability
and to the contrary to the
common processes – first the
sealing, and then milling – BOEN
first seals the raw board, then the
parquet element is milled with
tongue and groove. This is one
thing. The other thing is: An extraordinary
exact treatment of the
parquet elements with proper
expertise. Precise cutting of tongue
and groove, exact joints and flawless
edges. Sharp transitions and a plane
surface look.
This is the reason why we have
given a proper name to our new
process. BOEN ConneXProcess –
BOEN stands for masterpiece.

Protect Ultra –
Sealing
For highly-frequented areas a
perfect sealing is an important
point. The intrusion of dust, dirt and
humidity is avoided by the highly
abrasion-resistant factory-made
sealing with Protect Ultra. Whereas
the maintenance is considerably
reduced, the lifetime and durability
of your parquet is being increased.

It is crystal clear – BOEN Protect
Ultra - which is by the way ecological
as it is free from solvents and
from formaldehyde - guarantees
the unclouded view on the natural
color of the wood. The dreaded
effect of orange skin is avoided.
Ecoline
The oil-treated parquet. Ecoline is a
pure natural product which had
been found “good” by the German
magazine “Ökotest”. The result of
the special production process is a
natural satin-finished surface. For
allergic persons, the contents of the
used oils are important, for BOEN
products, we only use natural components:
Sunflower oil, soy bean oil,
carnauba wax and components
based on bee wax. The surface is
water-repellent, insensitive to dirt,
easy to clean, smear-resistant and
resistant against spotting.
Unsealed
Each parquet flooring is also
available with an unsealed layer of
exotic wood. If you have a special
vision of the surface treatment,
you can perform the sealing
yourself after laying according to
your wishes and demands.

Traffic
With this variant of Prestige BOEN offers a parquet
flooring with approx. 6mm top-layer ideal for highly

Maxi
The Maxi strip is wider and longer than the typical
one-strip products. This format perfectly shows to
advantage in amply living rooms or exclusive
commercial areas such as, e.g. boutiques, restaurants
and galleries.

The creative design solution. Thanks to the very little
construction height Prestige is the ideal alternative
to the solid strip floor. Prestige is directly glued to the
subfloor. The parquet flooring is sealed with Protect-
Ultra, oiled with Ecoline or – if required – oiled with BOEN
natural oil. It is also possible to purchase our parquet
strips completely untreated.
14 kinds of wood in two different strip lengths and a
design square make of Prestige a combination wonder.
Furthermore 7 kinds of wood are available as 790 mm
long strip. The hardwood top layer with a thickness of 3,5
or 6 millimeters is bonded inseparably to a stable
buttom-layer of 6 millimeters made of birch-plywood.
This shows BOEN’S responsible handling of the natural
resources.

technologies – first mill, then seal –
the BOEN raw floorboard is first
sealed, then the parquet element is
milled with the tongue and groove
profile. This is one argument.
The other one is: The outstanding
machining of the parquet element.
It is truely masterly. A precise

Protekt Ultra – laquering
A perfect sealing is an essential
aspect for highly frequented areas.
Dust, soiling and humidity are
prevented from intruding by a
highly abrasion-proof sealing with
Protekt Ultra which is applied by
the manufacturer. While the work
for cleaning is considerably reduced,
the lifetime and durability of the
parquet increases. Cristal-clear -
BOEN Protekt Ultra, is by the way
an ecological product as it is free
from solvents and formaldehyde,
guarantees an untarnished view
on the natural colour of the wood.

Ecoline
The oil-treated parquet!
Ecoline is a really natural product
which does not leave anything to
be requested. The result of the particular
production process is a natural
satin-finished surface. For allergic
persons it is important to know
that the substances of content of
the oil used by BOEN are natural
products: sun flower oil, soy bean
oil, Carnauba wax and components
based on beeswax. Biologically
recommended for constructions.
And last but not least: The surface
is hydrophobic, dirt-resistant, easy to
clean, smear-resistant and resistant
against stains. Please don’t hesitate
to ask further questions.
Naturally oiled – Parquet flooring
as natural as we like it.
Our parquet floorings are pre-oiled
by the manufacturer in a traditional
way using the new natural oil. We
take our time to oxidatively dry the
oiled strips. After having installed
the flooring, the surface will again

be finished by your installer using
BOEN natural oil. Naturally oiled
surfaces emphasizes the character
of the wood, they shine mat and
give the parquet flooring a quite
natural haptic. With the flooring
being quite natural, it is not necessary
to renounce optimum protection.
If the flooring is regularly cared,
the parquet surface won't get worn
by dust, dirt and humidity. Please
ask us for our special cleaning and
maintenance products. The production
is performed according to your
order and there-fore it is necessary
to plan longer delivery times.
Unfinished
Upon request any Prestige, Traffic
and ShipStyle floor is available with
an untreated hardwood top layer.
If you also have particular ideas
concerning the surface treatment
you may take over yourself the
sealing according to your wishes
and requirements.

With Prestige you will be be happy anywhere - in new buildings and
old buildings it is suitable in any way. Another reason is the subsoil:
No matter if you want to lay it on an underfloor heating or on a
cement screed. You may lay Prestige anywhere...
Let’s go! – so easily you will lay your desired flooring
UNDERFLOOR HEATING
The laying
You may indeed lay Prestige on any
professionally prepared subsoil:
on cement-, anhydrite-, mastic
asphalt- and dry screeds as well
as on flake- and plywood boards.
But what means professional? – This
means that the subsoil is tested -–
if necessary prepared - for laying
according to DIN 18365 for flooring
works and according to DIN 18356
for parquet works.
You have to especially pay attention
to the evenness conforming to
standards in order to prevent from
hollow spaces. Short planks may
serve to compensate the height.
The low installation height of
maximum 12 millimeters makes
of Prestige the ideal parquet for
renovation. Low heights of doors
or rooms are not displacing.
The little thickness even allowes
a combination with textile and
ceramic flooring of the same height.
CEMENT COATING
Due to a convenient resistance of
heat passage the pre-conditions
for laying on hot water underfloor
heating are extremely good. Longterm
researches of the “Fraunhofer
Institute” for wood research have
certified this to BOEN - this means
also to Prestige and all its variants.
It is recommended to use pre-coats,
equalization masses and adhesives
of one manufacturer; this offers best
possible certainty.
A parquet flooring is only laid
perfectly when all the transisions
to a adjacent room s and walls are
designed matching to the parquet
flooring. Therefore we offer you a
large range of accessoires: matching
skirtings for any of our wood types,
mouldings, stair nosing.

PRECOAT
The packing
We talk about an “overall-carefreeparquet”
as each pack is thoroughly
sorted according to left-hand and
right-hand strips. Simply turn the
box upside down and the laying
goes almost without saying.
A rapid and simple laying is not
disturbed. This is another reason
why Prestige is so popular among
professionals.
