Shelly and Josh with Lucy and Odessa
my wedding dress. The eyes just start welling up and you know it’s a
good fit,” Jessica said. She told her husband that the puppy was all she
wanted for Christmas. Jessica had to work the rest of the day, so her
husband went and picked up the dog. They named her Esa Rhone, and
she’s become a precious addition to their family.
Much like Jessica, Josh wasn’t really looking for a new pet since he
and his wife Shelly already have a Cocker spaniel and a cat. Back in
October, his photography assignment included a profile of Odessa, a
gentle German shepherd/greyhound mix with a calm demeanor that
captured Josh’s attention. Odessa was thin and her fur was falling out.
At a friend’s house a few days later, Josh was compelled to pull up the
photo on the AHS website to show his wife. While he was on another
shoot over that weekend, his wife went to see Odessa and brought
her home.
Odessa has fit right in, and even seems to have revitalized Lucy, the
family’s 10-year-old dog. Lucy was a bit grumpy until this big, silly,
active playmate brought more fun into the house. At first, Odessa was
a bit nervous but once she started taking training classes at AHS, she
became much more confident and comfortable with her new owners.
“The responsibility of having a big dog scared me a bit, but she’s made
the whole experience such a joy and so rewarding,” Josh said. “It’s one
of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my life, besides getting
married.”
couldn’t resist
Each Tuesday morning Fox 9 highlights
an AHS pet live on the air and each Friday on WCCO’s Noon Show, a
lucky animal is brought to the station to get his moment in the spotlight,
all in hopes that one will get adopted. But, it’s not only the
viewers who fall in love with these pets.
Juli Jay is the traffic reporter for Fox 9’s
Morning Show. On one Tuesday morning,
Little Mocha, a scared Yorkshire terrier
who had been abandoned in his home,
was spotlighted as that day’s Pick of the
Litter. Moments after the segment finished,
Juli, who had lost her dog just
months before, was visibly affected. She
had fallen instantly in love with this little Juli Jay and Little Mocha
guy and the feelings were mutual. The
next day, Mocha made another appearance
on Fox 9, but this time as the new
traffic dog. He now accompanies Juli to
many AHS events.
Fox 9’s Morning Feature Reporter M.A.
Rosko is well-known as a dog lover and
her beloved silver-dappled miniature
dachshund, Münter, is often at her side.
MA Rosko, Münter and Big Red
But one Tuesday, a big wiggly Lab named
Frankie made his way to the studio for
the morning segnment and by Wednesday
was appropriately renamed Red by
his new owner who was thrilled to bring
the handsome dog home. “I love him
dearly,” says M.A. who adopted Red just
one year ago. “I can’t imagine life without
my #1 man, Big Red.”
Sonya Goins and Dejaynay
Over at WCCO, Sonya Goins was producing the Noon Show and went
back to the Green Room to check in with her guests. The tiny black
kitten bouncing around the room waiting for her close up made quite
the impression. After the show, Sonya quickly found her way to AHS
to adopt the fuzzy feline who now goes by Dejaynay. As Sonya says
“I adopted her for my kids, but she is my baby.”
