Future Business Leaders of America
Sunday, October 28th was National Make a Difference Day, and students
from Matthews Middle School joined students from Wauconda High
School to get involved and make a difference in their community. These
students are members of a club called Future Business Leaders of America.
The club originally started at the high school two years ago under the
guidance of Wendy Mills and was such a success that starting a club for 8th
graders at Matthews Middle School seemed the logical next step. Thus far,
over fifty students have signed up. Our first event involved Trick-or-
Treating in Port Barrington, and instead of asking for candy, the students
asked for donations to help the Lake County Homeless Shelter of Lake
County. We were able to donate a van full of supplies to the homeless
shelter thanks to the generosity of the residents of Port Barrington and
the efforts of our caring students at Wauconda High School and Matthews
Middle School. Future FBLA events at Matthews will include volunteering
at an animal shelter, and possibly serving meals for the homeless, and bringing
holiday joy to needy families. For more information about this club,
