NEW ACQUISITIONS FOR THE RADAR AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE LABORATORY SUPPORT<br />

FACULTY AND STUDENT RESEARCH<br />

The joint efforts of Professor Jeffrey Knorr,<br />

Chair, Department of Electrical and Computer<br />

Engineering (http://web.nps.navy.mil/~ece/)<br />

Research Associate Bob Bluth, Director of the<br />

Center for Interdisciplinary Remotely Piloted<br />

Aircraft Studies (http://web.nps.navy.mil/<br />

~cirpas/) and Paul Buczynski, Staff Director,<br />

Radar and Electronic Warfare Laboratory, have<br />

led to the acquisition of two new pieces of<br />

equipment to support faculty and student<br />

research. The AN/MPQ-64 Sentinal radar is a<br />

modern mobile, phased array, pulse doppler<br />

radar that will be modified so it can be used as<br />

an instrument for severe storm research.<br />

Funding from the National Science Foundation<br />

is expected to support the modification<br />

and deployment of the radar. The AN/TPQ-<br />

37 Firefinder radar is a modern mobile, phased<br />

array, pulse doppler radar and will be modified<br />

so it can be used as an instrument for meteorological<br />

research. Funding from the Office of<br />

<strong>Naval</strong> Research is anticipated to support<br />

development of at sea capabilities for the Fleet.<br />
