� GED ® Testing<br />
Testing facilities throughout the state offer the GED ® test to adults who want to<br />
receive the General <strong>Education</strong>al Development (GED ® ) test credential. The<br />
Official GED Practice Test (OPT) is offered in every WVABE classroom. See<br />

� Hit the Ground Running (HTGR)<br />
Hit the Ground Running is an intensive four-week, 120-hour job readiness course<br />
that integrates applied academics, computer literacy, <strong>and</strong> work process skills.<br />
Employers specified the content areas they felt were necessary to reflect the<br />
skills needed in the workplace <strong>and</strong> set the criteria for awarding Ready to Work<br />
certificates. These certificates require a Level 4 on three WorkKeys ®<br />
assessments, a minimum of 90% attendance, 100% punctuality, a minimum of<br />
80% on post-tests for training modules, <strong>and</strong> completion of a mock interview, job<br />
application, <strong>and</strong> résumé. See <strong>Section</strong> 16 of this H<strong>and</strong>book for more detailed<br />

� SPOKES<br />
Strategic Planning in Occupational Knowledge for Employment <strong>and</strong> Success<br />
(SPOKES) is an academic <strong>and</strong> job preparation skills program under contract<br />
between the WVDE Office of <strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> the Department of Health <strong>and</strong><br />
Human Resources (DHHR). This program provides classes with intense daily<br />
activities that address work-based academics; soft skills necessary for adults to<br />
pursue <strong>and</strong> retain gainful employment; <strong>and</strong> vocational training in customer<br />
service. DHHR <strong>and</strong> WV Works customers are referred to the program <strong>and</strong><br />
receive services on any given Monday. The SPOKES class is a 10-week<br />
program consisting of assessment, job readiness, work process skills, computer<br />
skills, WorkKeys academics, <strong>and</strong> vocational training in customer service. See<br />
