The literacy roles that libraries play may vary depending upon the community’s needs.
Some libraries provide rooms for literacy tutoring and training or for WVABE classes, as
well as videos and audio books, instructional materials, computer facilities, and special
collections developed for new readers. Tutors are trained to use the whole library as a
resource tool. When the local literacy council is not housed in the library’s facilities,
librarians can refer students to an approved literacy program in the community.
