Wendell Reid

Artist Biography
This self-taught artist was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, where he started to
experiment with sketching and watercolours at about the age of 10.
Wendell immigrated to Canada in 1975 and settled in Montreal. In 1984, his wife
Sandra purchased an oil painting, which he criticized, so she challenged him to
produce a nicer one. He immediately purchased some art supplies and has been
painting ever since. In the summer of 1994, they moved to Toronto.
A computer programmer by profession, in 2001 Wendell decided to abandon his IT
career. Prior to that, he worked for two large corporate organizations (BCE Emergis
and Rogers iMedia) where he held the position of computer operations manager.
Wendell has discovered that painting is the perfect escape from complex algorithms
and equations. Today, using oils, watercolours and acrylics, he enjoys painting in a realistic style. His prime fascination lies in the
inherent beauty and tranquility of the countryside.
Wendell has displayed his works in many galleries in Montreal and Toronto, as well as community and cultural exhibitions. His
paintings can be found in private collections throughout Canada, the United States and the West Indies, and corporate collections
such as the Montreal Urban Community Transit Corporation (MUCTC).
In Memorium
Susan DiMarco
Long-time city councillor Susan DiMarco lost a tough battle with lung cancer
on October 19, 2012. An avid supporter of the arts in Brampton, DiMarco
was responsible for the naming of the Rose Theatre. She was also a strong
supporter for the revitalization of the Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives
and played a key role in developing Brampton’s popular Concert in the Park
series. Known for her love of Brampton and the constituents she served,
DiMarco will be sorely missed by many. A tribute is planned in her honour, to
be incorporated into the water wall in Garden Square.
