A Friendly Reminder — Walkathon Donations Due In order to participate in the 28th Annual Spring Walkathon, each student was required to secure donations of $50 or more on or before the day of the event. Students who failed to meet their $50 minimum fundraising requirement, will be billed on their tuition account which is due before exams are taken in May. Sign Up Today — Transportation Reimbursement Deadline Drawing Near The online registration for the State of Illinois Transportation Reimbursement is available in the Business Office. In order to receive these funds, parents/guardians must incur expenses for transportation of their child/children during the 2006- 2007 school year. Parents/guardians must visit the Carmel Catholic High School Business Office to register online by June 30, 2007 in order to qualify for the reimbursement. You will need your social security number and exact mileage from your house to Carmel Catholic High School. Help Us Help Carmel! Thanks to the generosity of two area retailers— Dominick’s and Target—there’s a simple way for all Carmel parents to help the school raise funds! Dominick’s shoppers simply can pick up a Dominick’s Fresh Values card at the store and then register the card at www.escrip.com. Once your card is registered and Carmel Catholic High School is designated as your “school of choice,” Dominick’s will contribute up to 4% of your purchases to the school every time you shop and present your card. It’s that simple! Please take the time to register your Dominick’s card so Carmel can benefit. Every dollar matters at Carmel! Target shoppers, through the stores’ Take Charge of Education program, simply need to visit target.com/tcoe or call 1-800-316-6142 to designate Carmel Catholic High School as your school of choice. Then, every time you use your Target Visa or Target card a percentage of the amount of each purchase you make goes back to Carmel Catholic in the form of a cash donation from Target twice a year. This money can be used for things that are not in the budget, like new computers and equipment—items that can directly benefit the students. Please sign up today! Carmel’s 2006-2007 Annual Fund Needs You! Carmel Catholic’s 2006-2007 Annual Fund hopes to surpass the $300,000 mark this year for the first time in Carmel’s history! The school’s Annual Fund supports many programs and people at Carmel Catholic, helps to slow tuition growth and helps to keep CCHS on the leading edge. While this goal is attainable, it is only possible with your help! Your participation is essential to helping the school reach this goal of raising $300,000 to the Annual Fund. If you have not yet contributed to the Annual Fund this year, please consider doing so before June 30th. Your contribution, at whatever level you can manage, is important and will help the school to achieve this goal and continue the great programs for which Carmel is known. From the Development Director By the time many of you read this, you will have received our annual Donor Proof in the mail. For those who have not received it, the Donor Proof is a printed communication piece we use to communicate with our donors as we draw close to the end of the Annual Fund year. It lists all of our donors in the categories in which they will be listed in our fall Annual Report. We send this proof for several reasons. The Donor Proof allows donors to review how their names are listed and categorized, correct any errors, reposition themselves to a new donor category, or add themselves to the list of donors. While the Donor Proof serves a valuable function at CCHS, that isn’t the point to this month’s article. This year, what struck me while reviewing the Donor Proof is the meaning behind the 800+ names on this document. The Donor Proof provides a wonderful history lesson. The names of our supporters go back to parents and grandparents who were involved in the creation of CCHS, to alumni who represent our founding classes and beyond, to our current parents who actively support us with their time, talent and treasure, to friends who have been inspired by our mission, spirit and community. All of these people work together to help Carmel provide the best for its students. This has always been the Carmel way. When you receive your Donor Proof, please use it to affirm or correct your gift listing, adjust your gift club giving level or make a first gift of the year—use it as it was designed. However, when you are finished, please go back and spend a few minutes reading the names of those who support the school. You will see alumni 40 years removed from their graduation, still supporting their alma mater. You will see grandparents and past parents who worked hard to help start a Catholic high school in Mundelein, helped to initiate Street Scenes…as well as so many other traditions. By reading the Donor Proof you will be reading the Carmel success story—a story that faculty, staff and administration, alumni, parents and friends together have helped to write. Our community is strong, involved and diverse. Thank you to all who step forward, whether you are asked or not, to help Carmel Catholic be the best it can be. You serve as positive proof of the vibrancy of our community and you help to ensure that Carmel’s future remains full of possibility! George Rattin, Development Director Carmel Art Students Earn First Place Recognition at Lisa Show Carmel Catholic High School art students recently participated in The Lisa (Life Is Simply Art) Show, sponsored by The Great Frame Up in Vernon Hills. Four Carmel students received First Place prizes for their artwork. Congratulations to: Arline Collado—Geisha—Ink Drawing Mikhail Leonon—Vase of Flowers—Painting Lisa Warach—House—Photography Erin Glogovsky—Anti-Drug Poster—Graphic Design These top four winners now will compete for $15,000 in scholarships in the Best of the Best Show at the Thompson Center in Chicago on May 20. Other Carmel art students who participated in The Lisa Show included: Brandi Horton, Katrina Peralta, Elizabeth Suelzer, Laura Cantanos, Michelle Knight, Maggie Celulski, Emina Ademovic, Amber Spula, Ali Zirkelbach, Catherine Lantvit, Tracy Uchi, Okan Esmez, Jessica Hamman, Kristi Walin, Brooke Stevenson, and Lela Grant. “Every year the Lisa Show reminds us that celebrating great art is truly a community affair. The Great Frame Up has been supporting high school art programs for over a decade, and we hope to continue this tradition for many years to come. The Lisa Show is targeted to everyone—the artist, the parent, the instructor and the community. We want to recognize all the behind-the-scenes efforts from the hard-working young talent to the enthusiastic and dedicated art departments,” explains Cheryl Bitz, Lisa Show Coordinator, The Great Frame Up—Vernon Hills, Illinois.
