Mom wanted
A 19-year-old Detroit
woman with three warrants
and five license suspensions
was caught driving a car
without headlights activated
at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7,
on Mack near Neff in the
City of Grosse Pointe.
Wan-ants totaling $1,112
were for failing to answer
charges in City and Grosse
Pointe Woods municipal
courts.
Because the teenager was
nine months pregnant, City
police accepted a partial
bond payment of $185 for
release.
"Grosse Pointe Woods did
not wish to pick up (the
woman) due to her condition
and instead requested (she)
contact the court," said an
officer.
Abandoned car
On Wednesday. Jan. 5, at
2:30 p.m., City of Grosse
Pointe police impounded a
brown 1985 Plymouth
Reliant parked more than
48 hours in the 500 block of
Cadieux.
Officers said the vehicle
appeared abandoned. It had
a flat front tire, damaged
front quarter panel and
smashed windshield.
A citation had been placed

Although a year-end audit
last month resulted in the
city receiving an unqualified
rating, the highest available,
circumstances prompted
municipal officials to double
check the books.
"Our auditor is in today,"
said Mike Overton, city
manager. "She anticipates a
week or two at the most to
look at the books.
Everything appears very
good. I don't anticipate any
problems."

worn-out brown leather bag
in a parking lot behind a
grocery store in the 16900
block of Kercheval.
The bag contained two
pairs of tennis shoes and one
pair of slippers.

police on Sunday, Jan. 9, at
5:48 p.m., stopped a 32-yearold
Detroit man driving on
westbound Kercheval in a
1997 Chevrolet Venture
without headlights and a
broken taillight.
The man had four license
suspensions and was wanted
on three Wayne County
warrants. County authorities
told Farms police to
release the man. Farms officers
released the man's car
to a licensed female passenger.
Purse forgotten
On Saturday, Jan. 8, a 61year-old
woman from
Arizona reported to Grosse
Pointe Farms police the Dec.
31 theft of her purse from a
restaurant in the 8400 block
of Mack.
The woman said she and
her husband had finished
dinner when they exited the
restaurant without her
purse. Moments later she
recognized her oversight,
returned to the restaurant,
but her purse was gone.
She said the large, black
leather saddle purse was
worth $100 and contained
$185.
Two warrants
A 48-year-old Detroit man
whose 2004 Mercury
Marauder was blocking the
alley north of Kercheval on
the Hill was arrested on
criminal warrants Saturday,
Jan. 8, at 9:14 a.m.
The man was wanted in
Highland Park on two warrants
for contempt of court
totaling $750.
Grosse Pointe Farms
police said the man's driver
license was suspended. He
had no proof of car insurance.
His vehicle was turned
over to a female passenger.

of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee
parked from Sunday, Jan. 2,
at 5:30 p.m. to Monday, Jan.
3, at 8:10 a.m., in the 400
block of McKinley in Grosse
Pointe Farms. Nothing of
value was stolen.
"(The female victim) stated
that in the past week she
observed footprints in snow
around her vehicle and on
her driveway," police said.
The crime is similar to
others that occurred recently
in the City and Grosse
Pointe Woods. Harper
Woods police suspect a 19year-old
Detroit man.

Pointe Woods officers arrested
the suspect.
Briefcase taken
from car
A briefcase was taken
from a van parked the night
of Sunday, Jan. 2, in the 200
block of Kerby in Grosse
Pointe Farms.
The victim said thieves
entered the van by breaking
a passenger-side window.

Thieves took a briefcase
and music CDs from a van
parked Monday, Jan. 3,
between 4 and 9 p.m.
The briefcase was found
discarded a few houses
away.
Gas leaks on
Putnam
A Grosse Pointe Shores
public safety lieutenant
detected an odor of natural
gas Jan. 7, at 7:53 p.m.,
while patrolling Putnam.
The officer notified DTE
Energy, which had a repair
crew on the street by about 3
a.m. to the next day.
On Sunday, Jan. 9, at
11:48 a.m., an officer cruising
Putnam reported the
odor of gas. A MichCon dispatcher
said a repair crew
would be on scene in 30 minutes.
Plow warnings

in Grosse Pointe
Shores, you'd better have a
permit.
Public safety officers during
the protracted snowfall
of Wednesday and
Thursday, Jan 4 and 5,
handed out at least 14 warnings
to unlicensed crews.
No citations were issued.
Instead, officers patrolling
throughout the village
advised offenders of the
municipal ordinance and
handed out permit applications.
