Rejoice! A Savior is Born!
Advent is coming to a brilliant close and the Christmas season now
begins! I pray that all of our students, staff, and our families have
a safe and restful Christmas break. The new calendar year brings
many new and exciting challenges and experiences for our school.
We will kick-off the creation of a new strategic plan to highlight
our future goals and objectives for Father Lopez. Please save Febru-
ary 11, 2012, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on your calendar for our kick-off
vision meeting. Mr. John Meneough has agreed to be the chairper-
son for this important project, and we are forever grateful! This
will replace the town hall meeting scheduled for January 31, and
all are welcome to join us! More details will follow in early January.
Merry Christmas & God Bless You!
Mr. Sayago
P.S. Thanks Parent Club for the gifts ☺
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Father Lopez
Catholic High School
Vision Statement
Father Lopez Catholic
High School is a Christ-
centered community of
learners. We believe that
spiritual formation in
the Catholic tradition
and academic rigor
creates a positive culture
where all students are
free to discover their
human potential
through scholarly
pursuits, athletics, and
service leadership.
Dear Lord,
we ask that you bless
the community of
Father Lopez Catholic
High School.
Help us to uphold the
virtues instilled here in
your name, that we
may grow in knowledge
and faith, so that we
may better serve you in
all that we do.
We ask this through
Christ our Lord.
Amen
Cody Sullins – Florida State University
Marlena Tolland – Florida State University
Emily Wright – Florida State University
All 9 th , 10 th , and 11 th graders now have the PSAT results in their possession. They were handed out during
Theology classes on Tuesday. If your child has been absent the teacher is holding it so the student
can ask for it upon return. The students were also given a Parent Tutorial for interpreting the results. It
was also included in last week’s parent e-letter. Please review the paperwork with your child and feel
free to contact me if you have any questions. In January, students will be given the test booklet. Math
and English teachers will require the students to bring these books to class each day so that they can
review commonly missed questions. Students should use the result sheet and test booklet to go over
EVERY question missed. If they do not understand how they missed a question, they should ask the instructor.
Everyone wants to know how to prepare for the SAT. This is a crucial first step.
JUNIORS
Now is the time to register to take the SAT and ACT. Sign up on line at :
SAT – www.collegeboard.org ACT - www.actstudent.org
Make sure you take each test at least once and when registering for the ACT, sign up for the optional
writing portion at least the first time you take it.
SENIOR PARENTS (AND ANY PARENT OF A FUTURE SENIOR)
On January 9 at 5:45, a representative from Stetson University will be on campus to present information
regarding the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is always a very popular,
informative meeting with opportunities to ask all of your questions! We will meet in the Multi-purpose
center, stage side. A change for this year - in order for a student to qualify for any Florida Bright Future
Scholarship, the parents MUST complete the FAFSA, whether they feel they will qualify or not. If you do
not complete this form, your child will not receive any funding through the Florida Bright Futures Program!!
These applications are available online. You may want to review the information required prior to the
meeting. Go to www.fafsa.gov.
SENIORS
Many seniors have not completed the Florida Bright Future initial application. No student will receive
funding without completing this online application. See Mrs. Dowdy for assistance and complete it
over the Christmas break.
SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The SFC Matther L. Eskridge Memorial Award (plaque and $500) is awarded by the Rolling Thunder
Florida Chapter 8 to a senior who is aware of the POW-MIA issue. The student must reside in Volusia
County and be related, in some way, to active military, retired service member or veteran (proof will be
required). Applications are available now in guidance.
The Irish Social Club of Palm Coast is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a senior who is a resident of
Flagler County. The scholarship is offered to a student of Irish descent, a participant in school and community
activities, college bound with a 3.0 GPA and a US citizen. See Mrs. Dowdy for an application.
Annual Fund Updates
Time is running short and the 9th grade class continues to lead in the Annual Fund Parent Challenge! Parents, the last day
for your donation to count towards your student’s class participation is December 31. The winning class (highest percentage
of participation) will receive a dress down day and lunch on the field. The goal of this drive is to increase our participation
rate, so any amount donated will be a blessing to the school!
We are very pleased to announce that our staff is at 100% participation in supporting the Father Lopez Annual Fund!
Thank you all for giving your time, your talent, and your treasure!
The National Honor Society worked at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Port Orange doing yard work. This is an on-going project and we
made another big dent in the large area of woods we have been clearing for them. Mostly we had a lot of fun. Many hands make
light work and the people at Hospice are always amazed at how much work our students get done in 2 hours. The students are always
amazed with how much they enjoy doing this kind of work (once in a while, of course)!
And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that
all the world should be taxed. 2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was gover-
nor of Syria.) 3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4And Joseph also went
up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, unto the City of David which is called
Bethlehem (because he was of the house and lineage of David) 5to be taxed with Mary, his
espoused wife, who was great with child. 6And so it was that while they were there, the
days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7And she brought forth her firstborn
Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was
no room for them in the inn. 8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the
field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon
them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. 10And
the angel said unto them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which
shall be to all people. 11For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, who is
Christ the Lord. 12And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multi-
tude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14"Glory to God in the highest, and on
earth peace, good will toward men!" - Luke 2:1-14
