Vision Statement
Father Lopez Catholic
High School is a Christ-
centered community of
learners. We believe that
spiritual formation in
the Catholic tradition
and academic rigor
creates a positive culture
where all students are
free to discover their
human potential
through scholarly
pursuits, athletics, and
service leadership.
Dear Lord,
we ask that you bless
the community of
Father Lopez Catholic
Help us to uphold the
virtues instilled here in
your name, that we
ARE YOU CURRENT WITH YOUR 2011-2012 TUITION?
September 21, 2011
Our thanks to all our families for their timely payments on their 2011-2012 tuition – we appreciate your
good stewardship. If you need to check your payment or tuition account balance, you may access your
RenWeb account statement by logging on to RenWeb’s Parents Web (see instructions below). If you do
not have internet access, please call us and we will send you a paper statement.
If you are using the installment payment service by Smart Tuition, you may verify your account and payment
information by going to www.smartuition.com or calling 1-888-868-8828. If you have not enrolled
for the service yet, you may still do so by contacting Smart Tuition or you may print an enrollment form
by going to the school’s website and selecting “Registration Packets for 2011-2012” and following the
instructions under Step 2B. You must then send the enrollment to the school to the attention of Mrs.
Carmen Rivera.
Here’s an important note about how electronic bill pay services work with Smart Tuition (and many
vendors). If you use a bill pay service (usually through your bank or home bookkeeping software such as
Quicken), please realize that the bill pay service is issuing a paper check and mailing it to the payee. It is
not an electronic funds transfer. You will need to allow time for processing and mailing. Please check
that the payment date you select on the bill pay service is far enough in advance of the Smart Tuition
due date to allow for this. This will help you avoid any late fees imposed by Smart Tuition. The payment
receipt by Smart Tuition is determined by when they physically receive your payment, not when your
bank subtracts the funds from your bank account. If you have any questions about this, you should contact
Smart Tuition at the contact information listed above.
Here’s how to access your account via Parent's Web access. Go to the school's website (www.fatherlopez.org)
by selecting the Quick Links "Ren Web Log In." You need to have a registered email with the school. If
you included your email on the registration documents, then you'll be all set. If you did not, please send
the correct information to Mr. Mike Everett at meverett@fatherlopez.org.
Should you need to contact us at the school, here is the contact information for Mrs. Rivera and Mrs.
Lloyd.
 Mrs. Carmen Rivera: (386) 255-6556, ext. 325; crivera@fatherlopez.org
 Mrs. Karen Lloyd: (386) 255-6556, ext. 306; klloyd@fatherlopez.org
Week Begins!
Monica MacIntyre mmacintyre@fatherlopez.org
It has been another busy week for the families here at Father Lopez. I would like to thank Coach Sue
O’Malley for giving me the names of her wonderful parents who have donated on behalf of the cross
country teams. I have also heard from a couple swim team parents who have let me know about their
volunteer time. The football team parents have been busy feeding our boys before and after every game,
not just meals, but also healthy snacks. Thank you to our faithful football parents, Ann Spilman, JoAnn
Peters, Michelle Waddell, Carol Hogan, Ronna Haigh, Ginny and John McFarland and Cathy Mowen. I
also want to thank the Larsen family, Tracie and Jarrod Rathbun and Audrey Pingshaw for their help
during the volleyball games on Thursday night, as well as Laura Bader for her front desk assistance. One
last note, families who participate in many of the fundraisers or make donations to their child’s class,
club or team qualify for service hour credit (one hour of service per $20).
There will be a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, September 27 th at 6:00 p.m. in the France Family Multi-
Purpose Building. This is an opportunity for parents and family members to hear about any school updates
and to be a part of an information session with the administration team.
Thank you for everything you do!
Upcoming volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to:
Town Hall Meeting – Tuesday, September 27 th at 6:00 p.m.
I am so pleased to see our community honor our alumni. So far the Booster Club golf committee has
received four golf hole sponsorships in memory of our schoolmates who have passed away. Michael
Crotty (’86), Jerry Coble (’82), Scott Groeschner (’86) and lost loved ones from the class of 1960 have
golf hole sponsorships. Golf hole sponsorships are not just for memorials, but also a great way to advertise
a business, team or club. And that is not the only way to memorialize lost alumni, loved ones or
friends of our school. We have the brick pavers that can be placed around the flag poles at the stadium,
naming opportunities around the school and scholarships that can assist our students.
I have to recognize Coach Sue O’Malley and the cross country teams. They were the first to purchase a
golf sponsorship on behalf of Scott Groeschner. Scott was a four year cross country runner and team
captain when he was a student here in the 1980’s. After graduating from Father Lopez, he went on to
Notre Dame and then into the Navy. He was a part of the SEAL Team 2 and SEAL team 8 until 2000
when he was assigned to the U.S. Sixth Fleet in Gaeta, Italy. He was tragically killed off duty while cycling
in the Ukraine on November 12, 2004. Thank you Coach Sue and Green Wave runners for your
honor and support!
If you have any alumni updates please share them with Monica MacIntyre, Director of Alumni, Parent
and Volunteer Relations at mmacintyre@fatherlopez.org.
Our desire to be the best high school in the state
of Florida begins with you and your support and
the athletic department wants to thank all of our
current sponsors for their backing and assistance.
The response we have received thus far has been
fantastic! Our goal for the year is to raise $200,000
and because of you we are one quarter of the way
there. However, we still have a long way to go.
The athletic department wants to remind you that
we still have numerous opportunities for sponsors
to become involved, including home games, programs,
and upcoming tournaments. Remember
that no gift is too small and we will work with you
to create a sponsorship tailor made for your
needs.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to call
Coach Fernandez (ext. 308) or Coach Berryhill at
again thank you for your support and hope to see
day night 23-14. The Green Wave was led by Tony Ludovico
who carried the ball 7 times for 146 yards and two touch-
downs. Justin Bryant scored the other touchdown on a 3-yard
out the scoring.
INTERNATIONAL
STUDENT
PROGRAM
Lopez is looking for
safe, supportive and
culturally sensitive
homes to host
international students
through the school
year.
We are also looking for
families who would be
willing to host an
exchange student from
France for the month of
February! Our hope is
that families with
students who are
currently enrolled in
French here might want
to host a French
student in February and
then their child would
go over to France for a
month during the
summer to study. It
would truly be a cultural
exchange.
Get
Organized!
WHAT ARE THE
BENEFITS OF HOSTING?
Make a difference in the life of a
young person.
Enrich the lives of your family.
Increase cultural awareness in your
community.
Support diversity and cross-cultural
awareness at home.
Teach a student about American values.
Experience the joy of having a new
family member to love.
Share a new language and culture.
Build a life-long friendship.
Practice hospitality and generosity in
your own home.
Grow closer as a family.
God Bless our Troops!
This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave. - Elmer Davis
The Volusia Honor Air flight will be taking 100 WWII veterans to Washington DC Saturday,
9/24. This is the 8 th flight from the local area, and is designed to honor the WWII vets for
their service, by taking them to DC to visit the WWII monument, Arlington Cemetery, and
other sites. Of the 16,000,000 Americans that served during WWII, only 3 million are still
alive and they are dying at 1200-1500 per day. The average age of the veterans going on
the trip to DC is 90 years old. This special honor flight concept is occurring all over the
USA, and is funded by donors, so the veterans do not pay for the trip. We had Mrs. Jerry
King’s class write letters to the vets, thanking them for their service. These letters will be
given to the veterans on the flight back to Daytona, as part of the old fashion “mail call”
which is a very emotional time for the vets.
If anyone from the Lopez community desires to be part of the “welcome” home celebration
on Saturday evening, the US Airways chartered flight will arrive at the Daytona airport
between 8-8:30 pm. The airport staff and the local honor air flight volunteers decorate
and set up the terminal to welcome the group back after a very long day in DC. This is a
great opportunity to honor local hero’s from the greatest generation. Hope to see you there!
