O/L HUMAN BIOLOGY EXAM - NOVEMBER 2012
The forms for the above exam will be available in school by the
end of June (check with Registrar). Please note that you should be
having valid Personal ID / National ID / Passport and money ready
by end of June.
INTERNET AND FACE BOOK
Please note that Internet and Face book are completely forbidden
for Lyceum Students. If students (from Gr. 6 upwards) need to use
the Internet, they may do so after school in the library upto 4.30
p.m. on showing a permission note from their parent in the SRB.
GRADE 11 NATIONAL STUDENTS
Please note that from next year the May, 2013 to August 2013
term fees will be charged.
MEETING TEACHERS
Parents are kindly requested not to ask the personal telephone
numbers of teachers. If you need to meet a teacher, please
contact him / her via the SRB or telephone the school and give
a message.
LETTERS FROM SCHOOL
If you need a letter from school regrading any matter a minimum
of one week notice should be given to the school.
CHANGES IN TELEPHONE NUMBERS AND ADDRESS
Please inform the Registrar immediately in writing if your address
or telephone number is changed.
GRADE 3 CONCERT - 2012
Grade 3 Concert was staged on 25 June, 2012 from 6.00 p.m. onwards
at the Aeolian Hall.
GRADE 7 & 8 CONCERT - 2012
Grade 7 & 8 Concert will be staged on 28 June, 2012 from 6.00
p.m. onwards at the Aeolian Hall. Tickets are available at the
school office at the cost of Rs, 200/-.

Most of Beethoven's masterpieces were composed while he was
deaf. He was not about to let life's circumstances stop him from
fulfilling his destiny. It is said that on May 07, 1824, when the
Ninth Symphony premiered, Beethoven was on-stage conducting.
When the "Ode to Joy" movement was over, the audience erupted
in applause. However, since he could not hear, Beethoven stood
motionless, oblivious to the applause. Then, one of the chorus
members moved towards him, took hold of the composer's arm
and gently turning him around. By then the applause had faded
away. As Beethoven looked out into the audience, they began to
rise in standing ovation. It is said that a tear of joy slipped down
the composer's cheek. It is also said that another tear rolled down
the cheek of the chorus member standing next to him.
We are all gifted in our own unique way. As you grow up, don't
let the winds of adversity and the storms of life keep your talents
hidden from the rest of the world. Be strong enough to rise above
your obstacles.
One last thought to ponder on: Is there someone in your life who
gently turns you around when you are facing in the wrong direction
so you can see your standing ovation ? keep them close to
you, all the days of your life.
STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Parents are requested to check the accuracy of your personal
and contact details stored in our computer system and printed
in the "Confirmation of Personal Details" Form which is sent to
you with this Newsletter.
Children from Grades 1 to 12 should handover the forms to the
class teacher. All forms should be returned by 05 July, 2012.
We will not be able to issue the Second Semester Examination
Report to the students who do not return the updated forms.
Parents are also requested to provide mobile numbers and email
details so that the school may communicate faster using
these methods.
"POSON BHAKTHI GEE" PROGRAMME
Annual "Poson Bhakthi Gee" Programme of Lyceum Gampaha
"Poson Daham Nadee" was held on 08 June, 2012 with the participation
of veteran musicians Mr. Iman Perera and Mr. Sangeeth
Wijesooriya as guests. Elegant decorations done by students and
prefects with the support of the staff members created a serene
atmosphere in the Aeolian Hall which enabled the audience to
illumine their hearts and minds with the real meaning of Poson.
We remember with gratitude our Music and Kandyan Dancing
teachers, members of the staff, prefects, parents and students for
the work well done.

26 June, 2012 is postponed to 05 July, 2012 as Western Province
Athletic Meet is scheduled to be held from 26 to 29 June, 2012.

SRI LANKA SCHOOLS' INDIVIDUAL CHESS TOURNAMENT - 2012
GAMPAHA ZONAL SELECTION CHESS TOURNAMENT.
This tournament was held from 11 to 13 May, 2012 at Parakrama
Maha Vidyalaya, Bandarawatta. Sedani Suwanima came 1st runner
up in the Under 07 Girls Category. She also secured a merit certificate
at the final of the above tournament
SWIMMING
H.E. President - Mahinda Rajapaksaha All Island Schools' Swimming
Championship organized by Thurstan College was held on 08, 09 & 10
June, 2012 at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool.
8 students participated.
Dilshan Jayawickrama won three gold medals
50 m Back Stroke 32.79 sec. 200 m IM 2:35.90 sec.
100 m Back Stroke 1:14.66 sec.
1ST NATIONAL AGE GROUP 'B' DIVISION SWIMMING MEET
This meet was held on 15 & 16 June, 2012 at the Ananda College
Swimming Pool. 7 students participated.
Irushada Edirisuriya - 3rd place in 50m Butterfly Stroke with
a time of 43.35 sec.
Senuri Kariyapperuma - 3rd place in 50m Free Style with a
time of 38.71 sec.
PRACTICE CRICKET MATCHES
Two matches were played against Vidura International School. Under
13-A and B teams on 02 June, 2012 at our school grounds.
Match with Under 13 - A Team
Lyceum Gampaha - 209 for 3 in 25 overs
(Fahim - 50, Sanjula - 46 not out, Saveena - 46)
Vidura International School - 101 all out in 18.3 overs
Ruchira - 3 wickets for 0 runs, Saveena - 1 wicket for 9 runs,
Sanjula - 1 wicket for 12 runs.
Lyceum won by 108 runs
