The Neem tree was wise and tried to make the Acacia tree
realize its self worth - it told the sad Acacia that it was so
useful to sparrows, who built their nests in its branches.
The thorns it disliked actually protected them; its leaves
were their food; camels relished its juice; and it was truly
great. But it was hard to convince the Acacia.
The Silk Cotton Tree felt even worse than the Acacia. Its
appearance was so unattractive with its dark branches. Its
flowers bloomed momentarily, the summer breezes
blowing away the silky blooms. At least the Acacia was
home to the weaklings. The silk cotton thought it had no
right to live; it was useless.
Again the Neem tree reminded it of its good qualities, you
are an artist’s inspiration and a child’s delight, said the
Neem tree, and your bare arms raised to the sky are a
prayer and an invocation to the Almighty.
Mother Earth, who was listening in to this conversation,
spoke to them and said, “each one of you is invaluable to
me and an integral part of the great creation. Each one
beautifies the world in its own way. Be yourself and play
your part in the best possible way.”
Focus on the positive things in your life. It matters.
Happiness is more important than material things. Carry
this thought in your heart this New Year. Set new goals and
fresh dreams. Strive hard to achieve them. Constantly
remind yourself of your true potential. Above all, be
yourself!

Career Guidance Fair 2013
This year the Career Guidance Fair will be held on
13 th February, 2013, at Lyceum Wattala
from 9.00 a.m. To 3.00 p.m.
Venue : Building 'B' - 5 th Floor (Zeus Hall)
The career fair provides FREE advice and guidance
to students who wish to pursue higher education.
Make use of this great opportunity to explore
different fields in your career paths and collect
relevant information that would assist you in your
future educational goals.
Students and Parents from Grade 8 upwards can
participate.
The Career Fair is scheduled on the Parent/Teacher
day for your convenience – make use of this
opportunity.

Parent / Teacher Day
The Parent - Teacher Day will be held on 13th
February 2013. Please note that Parent Teacher Day
is not compulsory for students from Gr. 1 - 8 unless
the subject teacher has made a request in the SRB to
meet you. We recommend parents of Grades 1 to 8
students to give priority to visit the English, Maths
and Science teachers and only if time permits to visit
the other subject teachers. Please note that Grades 9
to 12 it is compulsory for all students & Parents to
attend.
Please collect the handout given to you at the
entrance and follow the schedule given below.

please put your suggestions into the Suggestion box.

Please Help Minimize Traffic
If you are staying close to school and your child is in
Grade 6 to 12 please allow him/her to walk to
school. Also if your child is in Grade 6 to 12 and
you are coming in a vehicle please drop your child
off a little further away from school so that he/ she
can walk to school.
A lady security officer will be available on the opposite
side of the school (close to gate No1) after 7 a.m on
Weekdays.
You may drop your child near the security officer who
will assist the students to cross the road.
In case a security personnel is not available do not
drop your child on the opposite side of the school.

Grade 1
Dear Parents,
Please note that the above meeting scheduled for
5th February 2013 will not be held has parents
have already been addressed at the Grade 1
admission meeting held on 18th September 2012.
Grades 1 to 12
Please read the Student's Hand Book 1 (SHB 1) and
be familiar with the school rules and regulations.
Violation of any rule will result in corrective action.
Birthday cakes (Kandana/ Wattala)
Please do not send birthday cakes on your child's
birthday. We will not accept any cakes, chocolate,
sweet etc.
Tuition
Please don't send your child for tuition for the main
subjects as what is taught in school is more than
enough. (does not include Music, Dancing, Speech
& Drama and Sports)
PT kit/ Relevant Sports kit compulsory
Please note that students should wear either the PT
Kit or the relevant sports kit for any sports activity.
If they do not comply they will not be allowed to
participate.
Snaps of Lyceum Students
Snaps of Lyceum students should not be used for any
advertising purposes without written consent from
the school management.
10% Marks at Semester Examinations for
attending religion school
(Grades 1 to 8)
Please note that attending “Dhamma School/ Sunday
School/ Ahadiya School/ Araneripp Padasalai” will
be considered for 10% marks at the Semester
Examinations for Grades 1 to 8. It is not necessary
that these schools should be in English medium. A
form will be given to each student in February (for
the 1st Semester) and in June (for 2nd Semester) to
get confirmation of participation from the respective
school. This form should be handed over to the
Religion teacher before end of February and June
respectively.
Please note that the religion forms will be distributed
to the students during the 1st week of February 2013
and after completion it should be handed over to the
Class Teacher on or before 28th February 2013.

The first course of the adventure training programme for the academic year 2012-2013 was successfully completed.
This was held from 14th, to 16 th of December 2012 at Wayamba Training Centre at Wariyapola. 29 students from
Grades 7, 8 and 9 participated in the Children’s outdoor based Adventure and Leadership Training Course. Students
performed activities based on team building, planning skills, resources management, decision making, leadership and
time management.
