Meaning and impact of collective negotiations on public education.<br />
Prerequisite: matriculation in the educational administration and<br />
supervision program or permission of the program head.<br />
EDUC 7908X Cognitive and Intellectual Development<br />
45 hours; 3 credits<br />
Critical exposition, in light of recent research, of developments in the<br />
fields of cognitive and intellectual development. Examination of the<br />
psychological bases for such representative educational issues as<br />
readiness, grouping, learning to learn, curriculum structure, transfer and<br />
concept learning.<br />
Prerequisite: a course in educational psychology and a course in child<br />
or adolescent development.<br />
EDUC 7930X Practicum in School Psychology<br />
60 hours; 4 credits<br />
Supervised experience in the educational and clinical functions of the<br />
school psychologist as a mental health consultant to school personnel<br />
and families. Students study urban, multicultural schools and deal with a<br />
wide range of typical functions of the school psychologist. Policies and<br />
procedures regulating professional practices in schools.<br />
Prerequisite: matriculation in the school psychologist program and<br />
Education 7903T [715T], and permission of the program head.<br />
EDUC 7940X Personality Theory and Research<br />
30 hours plus conference; 3 credits<br />
Contributions to the understanding of child development and<br />
personality including trait theory, psychoanalysis, behaviorism, and<br />
humanism. Other contemporary theoretical models and contemporary<br />
developments.<br />
Prerequisite: matriculation in the school psychologist program,<br />
Education 7900X [721.1X] and permission of the program head.<br />
EDUC 7941X Psychology of Learning Difficulties II<br />
30 hours lecture, 30 hours laboratory; 3 credits<br />
Theories and research on emotional, genetic, and familial factors that<br />
inhibit the child's learning. Diagnosis, etiology, and remediation of these<br />
disorders. Two hours of lecture and two hours of supervised fieldwork<br />
each week. Consultation with parents and professional personnel.<br />
Prerequisite: matriculation in the school psychologist program and<br />
Education 7911X [721X] and permission of the program head.<br />
EDUC 7942X Group Process and School Culture<br />
45 hours plus 30 hours conference; 4 credits<br />
Group processes in the school and classroom affecting the learning,<br />
behavior, and mental health of pupils. Role of the school psychologist in<br />
analyzing behavior in school context and effecting change. Working<br />
with groups in crisis intervention. Confronting and reducing bias in<br />
schools and classrooms. Experience in participating in and studying a<br />
group.<br />
Prerequisite: matriculation in the school psychologist program,<br />
Education 7900X [721.1X], 7940X [721.2X], 7920X [733X], and<br />
7943X [726.4X], and permission of the program head.<br />

Typical and atypical development of children and adolescents in urban<br />
and multicultural contexts, including physiological, neurological,<br />
orthopedic, health and sensory challenges, traumatic brain injury and<br />
cognitive impairments. Intensive study of illustrative and case material.<br />
Biological, psychological, sociological, cultural, and linguistic influences.<br />
Assistive technologies and other interventions.<br />
Prerequisite: matriculation in the school psychologist program and<br />

EDUC 7200T Contextualizing Literacy Instruction:<br />
Teacher/Learner Interactions<br />
45 hours; 3 credits<br />
Concepts and discourses in educational foundations and human<br />
development as related to interdisciplinary curriculum; classroom<br />
application in childhood education with focus on literacy. Study of the<br />
teacher’s role and impact upon diverse student learning; organizing and<br />
teaching of the language arts in the childhood classroom. Pedagogical<br />
implications of literacies.<br />

EDUC 7201T Seminar in Applied Theory and Research I<br />
45 hours plus conference; 3 credits<br />
Concepts and methods of educational theory and research. Application<br />
of techniques of research, with focus on classroom research and its<br />
impact on student learning, integrating instruction relevant to science<br />
inquiry and research technology. Formulation and development of a<br />
preliminary research project relevant to teaching and learning in<br />
childhood education.<br />

Continuation of Education 7201T [702.22T]. Implementation of<br />
research project relevant to teaching and learning in the childhood<br />
education classroom; focus upon current pedagogical inquiry,<br />
educational research, and innovative practices related to effective<br />
teaching, including issues of technology in education, English language<br />
learners and students with special needs.<br />

EDUC 7203T Advanced Study of Pedagogy and Curriculum<br />
in Childhood Education I<br />
45 hours; 3 credits<br />
Development, application, and implementation of curriculum based<br />
upon the theories and research findings studied and discussed in<br />
childhood education. Focus on advanced techniques of pedagogical<br />
practice, including aesthetic education, assessment and use of<br />
technology in childhood education, and the development of<br />
interdisciplinary curriculum in democratically modeled classrooms.<br />
Emphasis on integrating the social sciences into the social studies<br />
curriculum.<br />
