6th Form Road Safety
Talk
On Wednesday 16 th April
Highcliffe 6 th Form received
a talk about road traffic
accidents during PSHE.
One person from each of a
range of involved services,
including Bournemouth
Fire and Rescue Service,
Police Service and Poole
A&E Department, collectively
presented the issues
of drinkdriving,
driving
under the
influence
of drugs,
speeding
and falling asleep at the
wheel.
‘I didn’t want to look at
the pictures. I thought
they were too hardhitting,’
(Chloe Sami).
Not only did we learn
about the penalties involved
in being charged
with certain driving-related
offences, such as causing
death due to careless driving,
it was hard not to be
moved by some of the experiences
recalled by the
team.
The photographs of the
immense damage to cars
involved in
accidents,
the
crushed
car seats
and details
of the
painful injuriessustained
by road traffic ac-
cidentvictimscertainly helped the
message hit
home.
A recorded road traffic
accident scene was
shown to us,
giving an
insight into
the frightening
reality of
a car crash
and the
situations that the emergency
services are initially
presented with.

Parents - What Skills can you Offer?
Highcliffe and Ballard Schools are proposing to offer a series of lectures next
Spring term (2009) to students and parents focusing on various topics. These
may include areas such as Geography, Public Speaking, Study Skills and what it
is like to be a Barrister.
We would like to know if any of our parents are hiding their light under a bushel
and have an area of expertise that they would be willing to share. There is no
obligation or commitment at this stage but we are trying to build a database of
possible topics to take forward.
Proposed dates for this exciting venture are January 14th, February 4th & 25th
and March 11th 2009. If you feel that you could share your knowledge with others
please contact Mrs Dedman at school.
