Alaskan Immersion Cancelled
07 December 2012
Friday Facts
Dear Challenge School Families,
I am writing to inform you that the Alaska Immersion has been cancelled. The
family that helped me organize this trip no longer owns the lodge where we
would stay. I have contacted three new travel companies but they were not
able to accommodate this trip at this time.
I am looking into organizing another type of trip in future years, as this has
become a very difficult trip to organize and plan without the help of a student
travel agency or someone who lives in Alaska. I am so sorry to disappoint and I
wish I had better news. Please check the Friday Facts and Immersion Catalogs
for future trips.
Respectfully,
Jules Graeve
For Your Information…
PTCO Corner
Hello everyone! I try to stand
outside on Friday and Monday
mornings to hold the door and
greet everyone as they enter the
school. I love this. I love seeing the kids, some tired,
some dragging, some skipping as they head in for another
action packed day of learning. I like to greet them, by
name when I can remember, and see them look up and
suddenly smile. Many of them say hello back or thank me
for holding the door. They are all wonderful and I am
grateful that my child gets to go to school with them.
Thank you to our wonderful room parents. You guys
rock. Especially downstairs, we rely on you to organize
things and keep us parents informed. Thank you for taking
on that job. Thank you Candace Ellman and Sonji Wilkes,
our downstairs Room Parent Coordinators. It's a largely
thankless job but so necessary. Thank you for being the
liaison and clearinghouse of information! Tonette Salazar,
Team E coordinator, is there a role you haven't played at
our school? Thank you. We would be lost without you.
Jamba Juice December 13 th - coincides with the
Costa Rica Fiesta!
School Store every Friday - we are selling stocking
stuffers and small gifts for the holidays. I am particularly
taken with the Jingle Bell charm bracelet - stop by and see
them. Very reasonably priced!
Don't forget to buy your King Soopers and Safeway gift
cards, all proceeds from these sales go straight into
technology for our kids!!
See you at the school store!
Leigh Ann, on behalf of your friendly PTCO board (join us!)
HOT HOT HOT - Help Wanted!!
A volunteer to serve as the Immersion Driving Coordinator
is urgently needed. You would work with the current
coordinator this spring to learn the position, with the intent
of assuming the role when the current coordinator steps
down. If interested or to find out more, please contact
Candace Ellman, Volunteer Coordinator, at
c.ellman@earthlink.net. Thank you!
Coats for Colorado Update
From Marcus: Thank you to everyone that brought their
coats to give to Coats for Colorado! We donated 150
coats and 2 snow pants. They were given out to families
on December 1st. Thank you Challenge families for
donating!
Last Chance for Yearbook Pre-Orders
Just a reminder for families who have not pre-paid for their
yearbook to get their checks in immediately. We will be
determining our order quantity based on orders received
by December 12th. While the yearbook printer typically
sends 20 extra "overrun" copies each year, these are not
guaranteed and those who have not pre-ordered may not
have a book to buy at the end of the year. If there are
available overrun books, the cost will be $28 instead of
$26 at the end of the year and there will be no "World
Beat" inserts available.
To buy today, send a check in for $26 for the yearbook
and $3 more if you want the World Beat insert. Make your
check out to Challenge School. If you have any questions,
email Lisa Goodwin at lisadgoodwin@gmail.com.
Dear Parents and Students,
07 December 2012
Friday Facts
Global awareness is more essential than ever for our
children, and the best way to become globally aware is by
traveling abroad. Experiencing new cultures not only
opens students’ eyes to the world, it also prepares them
for the future. More and more colleges and universities
are looking for international experience on students’
applications to set them apart. Travel isn’t just
educational; it’s an investment that gives your child an
advantage in a competitive world. With that in mind, I’m
excited to announce that a group of students and teachers
from Challenge School are traveling on an educational
tour: Athens, Florence & Rome in May 2014
On this tour, students will experience new cultures and
have amazing adventures from the ancient capital of
education and philosophy that is Athens, Greece to the
vibrant, modern and exciting capital city of Italy- Rome.
Along the way we will stop and see other old-world cities
like Delphi, Patras, Ancona and Florence! Spots are
limited, so please don’t wait to enroll on this amazing trip!
The tour is operated by EF Educational Tours. You can
learn more online at www.eftours.com/1142650.
Please note that Challenge has an application process that
takes up to two days, please see Mrs. Kessler for this
application. I will oversee the teacher recommendation
part and let each family know when their student has been
accepted. Once accepted, you are welcome to enroll.
Please note that all students who enroll before
December 15 th lock into the tour price and receive the
$200 early enrollment discount. Applications will be
accepted throughout the school year until we have
secured 26 spots.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will truly set
your child apart. I hope you are able to join us!
Sincerely,
condition, for elementary school kids. Items can be
dropped off at the Cherry Creek Community
