As part of the Cleveland Indians‘ new Fill the House for Charity initiative, SC4K will be selling upper box tickets for the September 9th Wednesday, Sept. 9 game at the discounted price of $16 (normally $22.00 each). For every ticket sold through SC4K, we will receive a $5 donation from the Indians. SC4K will receive an additional $1.00 for every seat that is filled! A Message from the Executive Director SC4K Celebrates 40 th Year It has truly been my honor to work alongside retiring SC4K Board Chair, Rocky Richardson. Over the past three years, Rocky brought enthusiastic leadership and genuine passion to her executive role and helped see the organization though both challenges and successes. As Rocky moves into her new role as Life Director for the organization she will remain an important link. Her predecessor Terry Uhl has already hit the ground running with fresh enthusiasm and innovative ideas. Terry has been a longtime member of the Board of Directors and has provided significant guidance for SC4K’s strategic and public relations planning efforts. I am confident that Terry and I will work together with the rest of the Board and staff to continue the ambitious projects started by Rocky and her predecessors to ensure that Shoes and Clothes for Kid will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of deserving children for years to come. SCK Wins Graphic Design Award SC4K is proud to announce that the 2006 Annual Report, designed pro-bono by SCK Design and designer Vikki Pickett, won an American Graphic Design award in Graphic Design USA’s annual design competition. Plans for the 2 nd annual Fool’s Frolic on April 1 st are well underway. This will be a fun-filled, April Foolsthemed evening of surprises and fabulous fare at Moxie, The Restaurant. The Associate Board is hard at work preparing for the 4 th annual Luau on the Lake on July 18 th , an entertaining summer evening fund-raiser on the lake. Finally, stay tuned for opportunities to get involved with Shoes and Clothes for Kids Day at Progressive Field on September 9 th as we try to Fill the House for SC4K for the Indians vs. Texas Rangers day game. While we are busy with our 40 th Anniversary plans, we are focused more than ever on our critical mission of serving children in need with basic clothing items and shoes. 2008 Heart & Sole Luncheon Raises Critical Funds for SC4K Luncheon presented by Time Warner Cable Honored Coach Mike and Carolyn Brown with Golden Shoe Award SC4K’s annual Heart & Sole Luncheon fund-raiser was an extraordinary success and raised net proceeds of over $130,000. Time Warner Cable returned as the presenting sponsor again and Golden Shoe Sponsors were Fifth Third Bank and Forest City Enterprises. The Golden Shoe Award was presented to Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown and his wife Carolyn for their commitment to improving the quality of life for children and families in Greater Cleveland. Over 600 guests filled the grand ballroom at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. Guests were treated to delightful musical performances by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) All-City Jazz Band and the Cleveland School of the Arts string quartet. Crowd pleaser and Immediate Past Chair of SC4K, vic gelb, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Nancy Huber, Allan C. Krulak, Jim Mason and Rocky Richardson served as Honorary Luncheon Co-Chairs. Board Chair Rocky Richardson shared heartfelt “Words of Caring” about why she chose to become personally involved with SC4K and the positive impact new clothing and shoes can have on a child in need. Sam Cario and Kevin Kearney from ARAMARK accept the Morrie Sayre Volunteer Award from Valerie McCormack and Allan C. Krulak . A Message from the Chair Final Message from Outgoing Chair As my term as Chair of the Board of Directors ends, I wanted to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to my fellow Board members and the staff at Shoes and Clothes for Kids. Your heartfelt passion, unwavering dedication and depth of commitment have been a source of inspiration and strength. Thanks especially to vic gelb, whose gentle voice and quiet courage provided such a great example of leadership and grace, as well as Allan Krulak, whose long time commitment to improving the lives of this community’s children inspired me to think and dream big. A special note of appreciation as well to the Associate Board, whose innovation, creativity and youthful energy was a continual source of encouragement and hope about the future of this organization and this community. Terry Uhl has been elected as my successor - and I offer my full support as he leads the important work of this organization. Terry’s commitment to Shoes and Clothes for Kids is extraordinary, having been a hardworking, dedicated board member and volunteer for a number of years. While the coming year promises unprecedented challenges, the leadership of the organization rests in steady, capable hands.
