The Builtling consists of a centre and six. wings. It has a front of $00 feet, and<br />

with the two end wings? which are at right angles with the others, has an entire length<br />

of about 1,000 feet-the whole being designed to accommodate 250 patients. The<br />

boilding is fire-proof, and embraces many improvements from experiences of other similar<br />

est;lblishments. The style adopted for the architectural cletails is Italian. It is<br />

plain, but unique in character, and sufficiently relieved by yreeable detail to please the<br />

eye and excite cheerful sentiments. The site is about one mze removed from the handsome<br />

city of Kalamazoo, about midway between <strong>Detroit</strong> and Chicago. The Asylum<br />

w-o~~nd includes 1'76 acres, suitably timbered, of a pictilresque character, and desirably<br />

diversified with a rapid stream of water. The Asyl~lm is to be lighted with gas, manufactured<br />

on the premises in a cletatchecl building.<br />

The cost of the Building and furnishing approaches $250,000. The salary of the<br />
