The Builtling consists of a centre and six. wings. It has a front of $00 feet, and
with the two end wings? which are at right angles with the others, has an entire length
of about 1,000 feet-the whole being designed to accommodate 250 patients. The
boilding is fire-proof, and embraces many improvements from experiences of other similar
est;lblishments. The style adopted for the architectural cletails is Italian. It is
plain, but unique in character, and sufficiently relieved by yreeable detail to please the
eye and excite cheerful sentiments. The site is about one mze removed from the handsome
city of Kalamazoo, about midway between Detroit and Chicago. The Asylum
w-o~~nd includes 1'76 acres, suitably timbered, of a pictilresque character, and desirably

diversified with a rapid stream of water. The Asyl~lm is to be lighted with gas, manufactured
on the premises in a cletatchecl building.
The cost of the Building and furnishing approaches $250,000. The salary of the
