<strong>Beer</strong> Glassware<br />
Like wine, beer has complex flavors and aromas<br />
that need to be treated according to the style of<br />
each beer when serving it. And just as serving<br />
temperatures matter, the glass you serve your beer<br />
in could make a greater difference than many like to<br />
admit. For instance, if you serve your wheat ale out<br />
of a hefeweizen glass (shown right), the<br />
narrow bottom of the glass promotes the<br />
production of a great head during the pour<br />
and the glass has a wide mouth to allow<br />
you to really immerse yourself in the aroma.<br />
Our sense of smell contributes to our sense<br />
of taste, which is why choosing a glass that<br />
allows your sense of smell to be included in<br />
the overall experience will truly allow you to<br />
enjoy your beer.<br />
Many microbreweries are known to produce<br />
their own glassware, specific to the beers<br />
it produces. But this does not mean that<br />
you should go out and purchase a glass for<br />
every type of beer on the planet, but there are a few<br />
specific glasses that you will want to have around your<br />
bar.<br />
For ales, a Nonic glass, otherwise known as an English<br />
pub glass, is a versatile glass that you can serve most<br />
ales out of. For the darker ales, you will require a more<br />
bulbous glass such as a Guinness pint glass. For wheat<br />
beers, you will want the aforementioned hefeweizen<br />
glass. Wheat beers emit aromas of citrus, banana and<br />
clove that really contribute to the overall quality of the<br />
beer. Finally, for lagers and pilsners, you should choose<br />
a pilsner glass, which is shaped much like a V and helps<br />
keep your lager or pilsners crisp and refreshing.<br />
Merely pouring a beer into a glass, instead of drinking<br />
it out of the bottle, makes a world of difference, and<br />
choosing the right glassware will really bring out the<br />
best in your beer.<br />
Worldwide, only seven Trappist beers remain. Six of these<br />
come from Belgium, one comes from The Netherlands, and<br />
that is La Trappe. The La Trappe Trappist beer is a particularly<br />
special beer and you can taste the difference.<br />

<strong>Beer</strong> Styles<br />
<strong>Beer</strong> style is a term used to differentiate and<br />
categorize beers by various factors such<br />
as colour, flavour, strength, ingredients,<br />
production method, recipe, history, or origin. Though<br />
many beer styles have specific names such as<br />
Doppelbock, or Pilsner for instance, this is because<br />
they generally fall into broad types according to the<br />
time and temperature of the primary fermentation<br />
and the variety of yeast used during<br />
fermentation. With microbrewery<br />
technology and production abilities<br />
in recent decades, there is far too<br />
much overlap them to easily list them<br />

was a differentiation between at<br />
least two different types or qualities<br />

categorize styles of beer. One solution to this can be<br />
to divide styles up into how the beer should make<br />
one feel where each category can easily accept a<br />
range of brewing style as shown below.<br />

<strong>Cider</strong> is made from apple juice,<br />
varying in alcohol content from<br />
2% abv to 8.5% abv or more in<br />
traditional English ciders. The flavor of<br />
cider varies and is generally classified<br />
