16 Among NGO actions, perhaps the most ambitious and widespread one is the establishment of the Pesticide Action Network (PAN) in 1982 to work for the replacement of the use of hazardous pesticides with environmentally and socially less harmful alternatives. 17 Agrochemicals used in sugarcane cultivation Some of the pesticides most commonly used in sugarcane cultivation are listed below, together with a brief description of their main hazards.
