It is located in North Carolina not far from the small town Granit, in the middle of the „Old Belt
District“, the famous tobacco region on the east coast of the U.S.A. - the tobacco manufactory
CORNELL & DIEHL, probably the smallest in North America. This company is the life’s
work of Craig and Patty Tarler. We have been in touch with these unequalled tobacco producers
since a number of years. Their various tobacco specialities are very popular among pipe smokers
in the U.S.A., and they really do rank among the very best that money can buy.
CORNELL & DIEHL’s ways of tobacco processing are quite similar to those in our sister company DAN TOBACCO using traditional production
methods and machinery. A large part of their leaf tobaccos are fermented under pressure and heat in special hydraulic presses, among those
tobaccos many top quality U. S. Virginia Grades that we can only dream of (hard to get and harder to pay). During this maturing process, the leaf
tobacco’s natural contents of flavours and sugar are broken up and reinforced. As a result, the tobacco will develop a richer and fuller taste along
with a gain of smoothness to provide pipe lovers with a really mellow and pleasurable smoke. continued on page 83

CORNELL & DIEHL „Sunday Picnic“
A trip into the countryside, a meadow invites us to sit down for a
rest. Isn’t it nice to laze around on a blanket with snacks and drinks,
and our pipe tastes twice as good...
A classical flake tobacco with a pleasant smell. Various Virginia
grades with „Izmir Turkish“ and a smaller amount of Perique, cut
to a width of 2,5 - 3 mm. Slow burning, with a cool smoke and a
well-balanced sweet and gently spiced taste.

CORNELL & DIEHL „Organic Pipe Dreams“
Green - not only a colour, but in our days also a symbol of the pursuit
of unity of man and nature.
A blend of bright and golden Virginia tobaccos selected for gentle
sweetness and enriched with an unobstrusive casing of agave, ripe
plum and honey. All the ingredients in this pipe tobacco were grown
on certified organic farms, and no additional aroma or flavouring
agents were used for production.

CORNELL & DIEHL „After Hours“
To round off a visit to the theatre, what can be more appropriate than
a stop for a drink with your pipe in a cosy bar to relax for the night.
A flake cut to appr. 1,5 mm, prepared in the traditional way. Sweet
Virginia grades and a trace of Louisiana Perique are pressed under
the addition of Caribbean Rum. A cool smoke with a full-bodied and
creamy taste rich in sweetness, with a pleasant smell in the air.

CORNELL & DIEHL „Bayou Morning“
White haze gingerly brightened up by beams of the morning sun
between the trees in the black water of the Louisiana bayous create
a very special and elementary atmosphere.
A dark flake tobacco made of mature sweet Virginia with a good
portion of Louisiana Perique for a rich and smooth fully sweet taste.
Slow burning with a pleasantly cool smoke.

CORNELL & DIEHL „Autumn Evening“
Flames flickering in the fireplace, dozing in your wing chair watching
the thin blue ribbons of smoke curling up in the air... that’s where
you find comfort, pleasure and relaxation.
A genuine Black Cavendish processed by heat and pressure fermentation
of ripe Red Virginia grades under the addition of Maple Syrup,
cut to short and rather wide size. A really smooth smoking pleasure
of deliciously sweet and well-balanced taste, accompanied by a nice
smell in the air tinted with the scent of caramel.

CORNELL & DIEHL „Interlude“
When travelling the countryside by car, it is necessary to have a
break from time to time - and to enjoy a pipeful of sweet tobacco.
This medium cut flake, a blend of selected Red Virginia and a pinch
of Perique, was seasoned with aromatic honey and matured under
pressure to its optimum. It will provide a cool and gentle smoke
with a fine sweet taste and a friendly smell in the air.
