Do Health Practitioners Need a Test Device?
by Dr. Ulrike Banis, MD, ND. (Austria)
If anyone would have asked me
this question ten years ago, my
prompt and firm answer would
have been: "No!"
I had studied conventional medicine
and have worked with a
broad cross-section of different
natural healing methods - neural
therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic
and others. Besides using patient clinical examination I have
always used a lot of other investigative tools including diagnosing
by sight, checking a patient's tongue, examining
gelose and reflex zones of the body. I have also been adept
at using my six senses and muscle testing (when warranted) in
doing my patient diagnosis, so I thought I was well equipped
compared to my fellow colleagues.
But since then, life has taught me that I have to rethink my
position on using a test device.
On a personal level, I have generally always been very
healthy. Yet, there was a time in the past when I was suffering
from neurological pain in the region of my face, which I
thought could be associated with a tooth in my upper jaw. My
dentist was unable to detect anything, even though the pain
was almost to the point of being unbearable. It just so happened
that around that same time, my husband (Reimar
Banis) and a biophysicist (Dieter Jossner) were working on
designing a new medical test device. As is often the case,
when it comes to testing new creations (such as this) wives (or
family members) are the first guinea pigs to try such new techniques
on. So as the newly invented REBA ® device was ready
to be tested, I was the first person it was used on.
The test started by examining my energy levels and it was
revealed that my physical and emotional energy levels were
very low - something that I personally was unaware of nor
would anyone have been able to readily detect by my outer
physical appearance. [As I have since discovered, this state
of low energy is fairly common in medical practitioners who
often tend to put the care of their patients ahead of taking
care of their own health - despite their body giving them signals
and complaints.] As intriguing as this bit of news was,
the really big surprise was that the device identified "hyperactive"
as the emotional issue that was causing an autonomic
block in the region of the upper jaw - exactly where the pain
was!
Based on the test results, I was prescribed the respective
homeopathic remedies (Chavita ® 6 and Emvita ® 21). Being
your classic "patient in pain", I was at this time totally uninterested
in analyzing the meaning of the test results. Instead, my
immediate response was to take the remedies in the hope that
they would rid me of my pain. I took the homeopathic drops
and while we sat together discussing the results, I suddenly
realized that my previous pain was gone - only thirty minutes
after taking the drops!
Being a sceptical person, by nature, I didn't fully trust this
apparent sudden resolution of my situation. I went to bed that
night assuming that the pain would soon return and wake me
from my sleep. But, to my pleasant surprise, I slept without
pain, I woke up in the morning pain free and ever since then
myformer pain has never resurfaced. I kept taking the drops
for five weeks (until the bottle was empty) - thankful that my
former painful experience was over. For me this whole experience
was a learning one, for now I knew, first hand, how
patients feel when they suffer from pain for a long time and
also know the relief that comes from such pain being vanquished!!
When I was tested again after five weeks, the test
device now showed that my (physical and emotional) energy
levels were perfect (back to 100%). I went to my dentist and
told him that the tooth I previously was concerned about was
now perfectly all right and didn't need to be removed.
This early experience, as a REBA ® guinea pig, happened over
ten years ago now and I learned a lot from it, including the
following:
• I can't always tell from my senses what a patient's
energetic condition is like
• Without testing, knowing what our own energy levels are
at can be deceptive (and even dangerous), as we tend to
adapt to low energy levels over time
• Low energies on the vital (physical) and/or emotional
levels correspond with becoming ill
• As one's energy readings improve it correlates strongly
with the lessening (or disappearance) of symptoms and
increase in well-being
• In order to be able to tell how strong and energetically
effective a medication will be for the patient I find it
necessary to use the REBA ® test device
• Without the test device I do not know how strong and how
deeply rooted a conflict is and therefore for how long it
should be treated
• The REBA ® test results accurately reflect my patients' inner
feelings and when I discuss the results with my patients
they feel understood and appreciated.
• The REBA ® test device leads to improved patient compli
-ance, because they can control what I do, as they
receive a test protocol from me to take home. As a result,
they can re-read their test findings and thereby develop
increased awareness about what is going on in their bodies.
REBA Test Device
Since those early days, we have conducted similar tests on
thousands of patients and have undertaken extensive research
work on the use of the REBA ® device. This has enabled us to
identify a number of other practical applications for working
with the device, including:
• testing real allergies for intolerances
• measuring the size of an autonomic imbalance
• checking for geopathic stress (amount and body location)
a person is exposed to
• finding out what effect the treatment of a certain emotion
-al issue has for a patient
• testing and measuring foci and organ disturbances in
order to be able to prescribed precise and individualized
therapies.
The REBA ® device helps me to prescribe exactly the amount of
therapy that my patient needs, but not too much. Thus the
regulation of the organism will not become overstresssed.
Case Study
Here is an example of a patient from my clinic. Mrs. S. complained
about experiencing back pain for several months.
Her muscles in the lumbar region were tense, her hip joint did
not move freely, yet there was no sign of naval compression -
which can be a typical finding in cases of back pain!
When I checked her energy levels with the REBA ® test device,
I got the following readings:
Vital Emotional Mental Causal
50% 30% 70% 70%
Note: The average energy levels in a healthy person for these
four categories should be:
100% 100% 100% 40%
I found positive indicator vials for:
• Geopathic stress in her pelvis and lower abdomen
(Geovita ® )
• Autonomic block in lower abdomen (Chavita ® 2)
• The emotional issue " somatized fears" (Emvita ® 6)
• Hidden anxieties (Anxiovita)
• Chronic fatigue (Paravita)
• The "tonsil" vial as sign of a tonsil focus
The emotional conflict shows the following readings:
Vital Emotional Mental Causal
50% 60% 10% 40%
Interpretation and what I did
As a healthy person should have vital, emotional and mental
energies of 100%, I could tell right away that Mrs. S. was
physically exhausted, that she was emotionally depressed and
that she was experiencing difficulty concentrating well at all
times. Although she had not mentioned these conditions
when I had first interviewed her, she agreed on all points and
even admitted that she keeps losing her glasses and her keys
because she tends to forget where she last put them!!
On the other hand, the high causal level (70 - on her personal
reading) told me that Mrs. S. was a highly sensitive, intuitive
and inspired person.
When I talk with her about geopathic stress, I explain that the
stress zone keeps the body's cells from communicating freely
with each other, thus preventing proper repair work, especially
(in her case) in the region of the pelvis and abdomen - right
where her pain resides! (She asked: "Could this also be the
reason for her constipation and her sensitive bladder?" - more
symptoms that she had not mentioned before... and "Could
this also be the reason for her waking up five times in the
night, although her bedroom was very quiet?"). Since in the
case of geopathic stress, it is important to remove oneself
from the geopathic stress where one sleeps, I advised her to
either relocate her bed or use the lower part of her king-sized
bed - because this area was geopathically undisturbed.
When I told her about the autonomic block and the emotional
issue, this was instantly clear to her (She said: "I was
brought up to be brave and strong, but now pain wants to
show me that there is something wrong with this attitude. Well,
it is true that I am anxious about growing old and useless, and
every time the pain comes along, these thoughts become
stronger…).
With respect to anxiety, she had already mentioned to me that
she was conscious of there being some anxiety in her life that
she had always had to compensate for. I advised her that she
could cope with this anxiety too. It can be very taxing on an
organism to constantly be in a state of anxiety, especially
Patient testing with REBA Test Device
when always trying to compensate by trying to hide it. During
testing, anxiety is revealed by the Anxiovita test vial, whereas
testing with the Paravita vial identifies fatigue. The
Paravita vial tells me that the body is constantly "in sleeping
condition" and this leads to inner cramps.
Finally, I explained to her that her tonsils are chronically infected,
and that this would do harm to the body's immune system.
(Yes, that's possible, she claimed - for as a child she suffering
from various tonsil infections that later stopped occurring. She
never had surgery, but until now she didn't like drafts at her
throat and that is why she always wore a scarf.)
What needs to be treated first?
It goes without saying that this large number of stress factors
cannot all be addressed at the same time. This would put too
much load on the body and could not be regulated. Here,
again, the REBA device can helps me. By putting the respective
vials on a patient's abdomen, I can retest which combination
is best able to improve the patient's energy readings. I
then only prescribe those remedies that do well with the body's
energy, and I skip all the others. Sometimes it is like a jigsaw
puzzle trying to figure out which combination is best for the
patient. But, the advantage of this approach is that it:
a) permits me to know exactly which medication fits
energetically before I prescribe it
b) reveals which combination will be tolerated by the body
c) minimizes unwanted side-effects and at the same time
saves the patient expense
In Mrs. S's case the results were:
• Geovita ® + Chavita ® 2 + Emvita ® 6 + Anxiovita =
100% vital and 100% emotional
• Geovita ® + Paravita + Anxiovita = 70% vital and
80% emotional
• Paravita + Anxiovita + Chavita ® 2 + Emvita ® 6 =
60% vital and 70% emotional
As a result of this testing, my prescription for her was:
Geovita ® drops (2 x 12 drops daily) - for 5 weeks
Chavita ® 2 drops ( 2 x 12 drops daily) - for 10 weeks
Emvita ® 6 drops ( 2 x 12 drops daily) - for 10 weeks
Anxiovita drops ( 3 x 5 drops daily) - for 10 weeks
From the test result I knew that the conflict had a size of 40%
causal - and experience has shown that a conflict's causal
load melts in steps of 20% per bottle. Therefore, since one
bottle lasts five weeks, I had to prescribe 2 bottles of Chavita ®
and Emvita ® . Only one bottle of Geovita ® is required as the
body does not store geopathic stress for much longer than five
weeks (that is important to know!). Provided the bed is moved
to an undisturbed location and the medication taken the
effects of geopathic stress should be dissolved. Conflicts
always cause autonomic blocks that go along with the emotional
issue. Therefore it is advisable that the patient take the
identified Chavita ® medication in parallel with the emotional
conflict treatment (the Emvita ® ). Finally, Anxiovita is the
acute medication against her anxieties, and can be given 3
times daily, or more often if needed - in cases of panic attacks
or acute anxiety it can be taken hourly.
In Mrs. S.'s case it was obviously sufficient to prescribe these
four remedies, and postpone the treatment of her tonsils and
her fatigue, as when I retested her ten weeks later the following
results were obtained:
Vital Emotional Mental Causal
100% 90% 100% 80%
She indicated she had no more back pain, she was sleeping
well and was feeling so much better. At the time of her revisit
she said: "I almost feel like a young woman again. I feel
happy and confident concerning my future." When I retested
her, her fatigue was gone and her tonsil focus had diminished
and could now be well compensated for by her organism - as
a result no surgery was necessary.
Conclusion
The REBA ® test device:
• enables me to quickly and precisely determine a patient's
energetic condition
• helps me to chose the right medication, customized for
each patient
• supports my post-testing patient consultations
• is easy to operate
• provides test results that can be well understood (even by
laymen)
• helps in achieving patient compliance with therapy
• gives me happy patients which makes my work much
more enjoyable
As a result, now when I am asked if health practitioners need
a test device; my answer is a most definite "Yes". In fact, if I
was asked to choose between two of my favourite instruments,
my electrocardiogram and my REBA ® test device. I would
without question choose the REBA, as I now find it indispensable
in my practice. This opinion is shared by other practitioners
who work with the REBA ® test device in their clinics.
Therefore, my advice to other health practitioners is to “give it
a try and find out first hand how this approach to diagnosis
and treatment can enhance your practice”.
What about practicing PSE
with other devices?
A BIOMED Interview with Ulrike Banis, MD, ND
Several practitioner with other devices wanted clarification concerning
the suitability of such equipment in doing PSE testing.
This prompted us to put a number of questions to Dr. Ulrike
Banis.
Q: Several practitioners are using other test devices for
Psychosomatic Energetics. What do they have to do differently
to adapt their device for PSE use?
A: From my experience it is not possible to get the same
results you can get from the REBA test device with any other
machine on the market -- this by the way, is the reason why
there is so much envy on the part of many of our colleagues
that use other tools.
Reimar Banis, who did collaborative work with and locum
tenens clinical practice with Dr. Schimmel (the developer of
the Vegatest) was recognized as one of the world's best Vega
testers. Yet, he discontinued using that tool completely once
he discovered the options, reliability and consistency of the Reba.
I have several colleagues who upon seeing the scope of
applications I was getting with my REBA switched from
"Prognos" to Reba, others came from "Skasys" to Reba, etc.
Q: A practitioner who has been testing with the Rubimed
Basic Test kit using Meridian Stress Assessment System (MSAS)
(e.g. Biomeridian) wants to know: On what point (acupuncture
or meridian) should the testing be performed?
A: Not on any acupuncture point, as every point has energy
at certain times, and less energy at other times. Please
only check with the Reba, and use the arm's length reflex
method as demonstrated and taught at the PSE seminars.
Q: The Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA) brochure,
describes its test procedure as measuring electrical conductivity
at responsive points (meridian points, that corresponds to
acupuncture points) on the skin - typically on the hands and
feet. Some practitioners feel that nervous system points are
appropriate to use, others test on immune system points.
One practitioner wanted to know: if she should test a stressed
organ for the corresponding Rubimed Chakra remedy, based
on the anatomical location of the organ. Example: if the liver
is stressed, should Chavita 3 be tested first? And what is the
correct method of doing PSE testing, using MSAS, after the
patient has taken one set of remedies to see if the treatment
is complete?
A: There is no way to compare MSAS with Reba - these
are two totally different approaches to diagnosing and treating
patients. In Psychosomatic Energetics, with the Reba we
test first - and the body shows us exactly what it wants as a
therapy - it's the body's wisdom that decides which remedies
are required, not the knowledge or "intuition" of the practitioner.
My concerns are that improper PSE testing (such as other
equipment) will lead to incorrect prescribing of the Rubimed
REBA TEST DEVICE
remedies and unsatisfactory treatment results. With an incorrect
approach, a practitioner may then end up not feeling
confident with the testing method and give up on using PSE
to therapy, when the inconclusive results may be the result of
the equipment they are using. It is like they say “you can hammer
a nail in with a rock or even a set of pliers, but it sure
works a lot better with a hammer.” Eventually you switch to
using a hammer and notice you get better results. The unfortunate
point is that many who have invested thousands of dollars
into a testing device may not be ready to invest now in a
Reba device to avoid these difficulties and produce clearer results.
Q: Is it possible to test the patient with other Rubimed testing
kits beside the Basic Testing kit on MSAS?
A: No!! When testing with the Reba, the tester always puts
the identified remedy onto the patient's yin zone (near the
waist) - and then compares the results with the patient's initial
readings. This is not possible with MSAS testing. If the combination
of remedies manages to raise the patient's energy,
only then will these remedies be prescribed. This is the beauty
of the Reba device, it provides a "control" that nothing can
be prescribed wrongly - and this contributes to its success - as
we can be very sure that the patient will not only tolerate
his/her medication, but will also benefit from it!!
Q: What other possible uses are there for the Reba device?
A: You can also use the Reba device to find out if an agent
is an allergen or not. You can put any food to the test concerning
its energetic effects.
With the Rubimed organ (zoological) test kit you can test the
energetic level of a patient's organs and then as a subsequent
step you can measure the energetic quality of any supplement,
allopathic drug, etc. and its suitability for the patient.
There are many other applications - they are practically endless
- only I cannot tell everything at a Level I seminar - this
would cause headaches of a severe kind in attendees!!
This interview was conducted with Ulrike Banis in June 2006. On October
14th and 15th Dr. Banis will be in Toronto conducting a Level 2 (Advanced)
seminar in Psychosomatic Energetics, which teaches advanced techniques in
PSE, including using the REBA device to identify the Central Conflict and the
use of the Organ test kit and other special test vials.
“Many chronic diseases are caused by concealed unresolved
emotional conflicts that lead to energy blockages”
Using a polyfrequency spectrum (PFS), the REBA test device is a
state-of-the-art microprocessor technology instrument that can
identify the conflicts and energy blockages and geopathic stress
that disrupt the pathway to physical and emotional health.
