A PRODIGAL FATHER
Webster’s Dictionary has three defi nitions for the word
“prodigal.” The fi rst two are “wasteful” and “reckless.”
These are words that accurately describe the son in the
famous parable told by Jesus.
The third defi nition of prodigal is “abundant,” and
this word describes well the mercy of the father in the
parable, and the mercy of God in our lives.
Pope John Paul II described mercy as the greatest of all
of God’s attributes.
In our own lives, we often acknowledge our
wasteful and reckless disregard for the gift of
our own human dignity and that of others in our
sinful choices. Maybe we have even rehearsed
confessions like the son preparing to return
contritely to his father’s house.
We have also experienced the love beyond
description in the merciful embrace of our
heavenly Father whose abundant love is the source of
our reconciliation and peace.
This Monday, March 11, every Wednesday in Lent, a
number of times during Holy Week, every Saturday
during the year, and any day and time by appointment,
we are invited to celebrate the abundant, dare we
say, the prodigal love of our heavenly Father in the
sacrament of Reconciliation.
As we refl ect once again on a familiar parable, and
experience the mercy of God in the sacrament of
Reconciliation, we may realize that in our God we
have a Prodigal Father, and for this we can always be
grateful!

UN PADRE PRÓDIGO
El diccionario Webster (en inglés) tiene tres defi niciones
de la palabra “pródigo.” Las dos primeras son
“despilfarrador” e “imprudente.” Estas son las palabras
que defi nen exactamente al hijo en la famosa parábola de
Jesús, proclamada hoy una vez más en nuestra Iglesia.
Sin embargo, la tercera defi nición dice: “dadivoso,” y
esta palabra describe bien la misericordia del padre en la
parábola, y la de Dios en nuestras vidas.
El Papa Juan Pablo II dijo que la misericordia es la mayor
cualidad de Dios.
En nuestras vidas, normalmente reconocemos
nuestras elecciones pecaminosas en nuestra
indiferencia despilfarradora e imprudente por el
don de nuestra propia dignidad humana y la de
los demás. Tal vez hasta hemos ensayado una
confesión como la del hijo cuando se preparaba
con contrición para regresar a la casa de su padre.
También hemos experimentado el inmenso amor
con el abrazo misericordioso de nuestro padre
celestial cuyo abundante amor es la fuente de nuestra
reconciliación y paz.
Este lunes, 11 de marzo, los miércoles en Cuaresma,
algunos días en la Semana Santa, cada sábado y domingo
durante el año, y cualquier día, a cualquier hora con
una cita, estamos invitados a celebrar el abundante,
nos atrevemos a decir, amor pródigo de nuestro Padre
celestial en el sacramento de la Reconciliación.
Al refl exionar una vez más en esta parábola, y
experimentar la misericordia de Dios en el sacramento
de la Reconciliación, quizás nos demos cuenta de que
en nuestro Dios, tenemos un Padre Pródigo, ¡por el que
siempre debemos estar agradecidos!

tradicional anual que tendrá lugar en el día de la fi esta de
San José en el vecindario de Audubon Estates. Vamos a
honrar a San José, modelo de servicio y caridad, patrono
de los padres de familia y los trabajadores por estar al
frente de la Sagrada Familia y cumplir con su deber
acertadamente. Durante esta celebración, vamos a pedir
bendiciones especiales para todos los padres de familia,
especialmente a los que nos acompañan. La Procesión
comenzará en 7836 Flamingo Dr. y terminará en 3404
Pelican Place, donde habrá un convivio después del

SAINTS PATRICK & JOSEPH
Throughout this Year of Faith we have
opportunities for study, prayer, and action
that promote living our faith. Two models of
faith, love, hope and charity are St. Patrick
and St. Joseph.
St. Patrick’s feast day is March 17. St.
Patrick exemplifi es how Christian witness
can have a pervasive, lasting impact on a
culture. Following the example of Jesus,
who taught with imagery, St. Patrick used a shamrock
to illustrate the Trinity, making a great mystery of God
accessible to all people.
St. Joseph’s feast day is March 19. St. Joseph is the
patron of fathers, families and workers. The Holy
Family was the setting of his life’s work - to guide,
protect, and labor for Jesus and Mary. St. Joseph was a
compassionate, caring man of faith, who was
obedient to all God asked of him without
knowing the outcome. St. Joseph loved Jesus
and his concern was for the safety of this
special child entrusted to him.
Through the intercessions of St. Patrick and
St. Joseph, may the Year of Faith enrich us
with a greater love for God the Father, Son
and Holy Spirit.

En éste Año de la Fe tenemos la oportunidad de

nuestra fe. San Patricio y San José son dos
modelos de fe, amor, esperanza y caridad.
El día de San Patricio es el 17 de marzo. San
Patricio es un ejemplo de cómo un testimonio
Cristiano puede tener un impacto profundo y
duradero en una cultura. Siguiendo el ejemplo
de Jesús, quien enseñaba con metáforas, San
Patricio utilizó un trébol para ilustrar a la Santísima
Trinidad, y de ésta manera, hizo posible que uno de los
grandes misterios de Dios llegue a muchas personas.
El día de San José es el 19 de marzo. San José es el Santo
patrón de los padres, las familias y los trabajadores. La

fe, obediente de aquello que Dios le pedía, aún
sin conocer el resultado. San José amó a Jesús
y su preocupación era la seguridad de este niño
especial encomendado a su cuidado.
Que San Patricio y San José intercedan por
nosotros y que en el Año de la Fe aumentemos
en el amor a Dios Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.
