March 17, 2013 Fifth Sunday of Lent
SAINT JOSEPH
When I was installed as Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish
in 2011, I prayed that I would be able to model my life
according to the words proclaimed in the book of the
prophet Micah: “Act with justice; love tenderly; walk
humbly with God” (Micah 6:8).
These words teach a way of life we all might aspire to
live.
As we celebrate the feast of St. Joseph this week (March
19), I think we see in this saint’s life an example par
excellence of how to put these words into
practice.
The scriptures themselves describe Joseph as
a “just man” (Matthew 1:19).
His tender love is seen in the variety of ways
he cared for Jesus and Mary on the road to
Bethlehem, in their flight into Egypt and in
their home at Nazareth.
And his humility is seen in his silence: in all
of the scriptures there is no record of any word ever
spoken by Joseph, but we do know that he was always
an alert and appreciative witness of the glory of God
revealed in the life of Jesus in his home and before his
very eyes.
Let us honor St. Joseph in a special way during this
coming week, and let us imitate him every day of our
lives by acting with justice, loving tenderly and walking
humbly with God.

SAN JOSÉ
Cuando fuí nombrado Párroco de El Buen Pastor en el
2011, yo recé para que pudiera seguir el modelo de vida
según las palabras proclamadas en el libro del profeta
Miqueas: “...que practiques la justicia, que seas amigo
de la bondad y te portes humildemente con tu Dios.”
(Mi, 6:8)
Estas palabras nos enseñan una forma de vida que todos
deberíamos anhelar vivir.
Al celebrar el día de San José en esta semana (19 de
marzo), pienso que en la vida de este santo,
un ejemplo por excelencia de cómo poner en
práctica esas palabras.
Las escrituras en sí, describen a José como un
“hombre justo” (Mateo 1:19).
Su amor bondadoso se demuestra en las
distintas maneras que cuidó a Jesús y María en
el camino a Belén, en la fuga a Egipto y en su
hogar de Nazaret.
Finalmente, su humildad se demuestra en su silencio: en
todas las escrituras no se registra palabra alguna que haya
dicho José, pero sí sabemos que siempre fue un testigo
alerta y agradecido de la gloria de Dios revelado en la
vida de Jesús en su hogar y frente a sus propios ojos.
Honremos a San José de manera especial durante esta
semana entrante e intentemos imitarlo todos los días de
nuestras vidas actuando con justicia, amor bondadoso y
caminando humildemente con Dios.

AYUDAR A DECORAR LA IGLESIA PARA LA PASCUA
El Sábado Santo, 30 de Marzo, 9:30am - 12:00pm
DOMINGO DE RAMOS
El próximo domingo empezaremos la Semana Santa con
la celebración del Domingo de Ramos. Recordaremos la
entrada triunfal de Jesús a Jerusalén, lugar en donde nuestro
Salvador dará su vida y vivirá lo que en liturgia llamamos su
misterio pascual, es decir su muerte y resurrección, que nos
trajo la salvación.
A la 1:30pm tendremos la procesión, se bendecirán las
palmas y, luego, tendremos la misa. Otra vez este año
tendremos dos misas al mismo tiempo: una en el templo a las
2:00pm, y otra en el hall a las 2:15pm. Durante la procesión
las puertas de la parroquia estarán cerradas, solamente
tendrán acceso las personas ancianas o discapacitadas.
Después de la Procesión, pedimos que todos entran con
solemnidad y paciencia siguiendo las instrucciones de los
ujieres.

My fellow parishioners,
Our spaghetti dinner on March 2 was a tremendous
success! We hosted over 100 families, including many
‘first-timers.’ It takes the hard work of many volunteers
to host the dinner. Many thanks to:

Lee and Sharon Gurke, Pat Connors, Ed Dzanis,
Amy Thompson, Paul McGuire, Deacon Candidate
