Ask your child to write
the spelling words
correctly on the blank
lines. As you work with
your child to practice
this week’s spelling
words, try the following
activity.
Varied Expressions
Dictate several
sentences to your child.
For example, “Tom and
I will ride the bus home
from school.” Then
have your child rewrite
each sentence to form a
question, such as, “Will
Tom and I ride the bus
home from school?”
Follow the question
with an exclamation,
“Tom and I are riding
the bus home from
school!” and finally, a
command, “You and
Tom, ride the bus home
from school.”
Encourage your child to
read the sentences
aloud and to notice
how the expression of
his or her voice changes
with each type of
sentence.
