October 22 – 26, 2014 | Calella/Barcelona, Spain Due to the great enthusiasm among the choral scene regarding the new festival Canta al mar 2012 INTERKULTUR will ensure that Calella will become the meeting place for choirs from all over the world on a yearly basis. Thus also in 2014 from Oct. 22 to 26. In general applies that the fantastic metropolis Barcelona will be an attractive part of this festival. Either as venue for the competition and friendship concerts or simply as destination for a day trip. 3.5 kilometres of sandy beach as well as its location directly at the Mediterranean Sea and close to Barcelona make Calella a popular European travel destination. During the choir festival numerous friendship concerts will take place in the contemplative old town with its Catalan flair. All concert and competition venues as well as accommodations and other event locations in Calella are situated within walking distance. Thus attending concerts and other events can be combined perfectly with a placid stroll through the historic old town. Here choirs will meet, celebrate and sing together and get to know other nations and their traditions. Mixed, male, female, children’s and youth choirs can participate in the competition in established categories and different levels of difficulty. Special attention is given to the categories “Folklore“ and “Pop“. No category will require compulsory pieces so that all participating choirs can choose an appropriate repertoire and perform in front of the jury without major restrictions. Kirby Shaw ha conseguido tener un fuerte impacto<br />

en la educación music<strong>al</strong> cor<strong>al</strong>, además<br />

de compartir sus conocimientos music<strong>al</strong>es en<br />

45 estados. Este artista cuenta con titulaciones<br />

en Educación Music<strong>al</strong> y Composición Cor<strong>al</strong>, obtenidas<br />

en la Universidad Estat<strong>al</strong> de San José,<br />

además de con un Doctorado en Artes Music<strong>al</strong>es,<br />

en la especi<strong>al</strong>idad de Dirección Cor<strong>al</strong>, expedido<br />

por la Universidad de Washington. Antes<br />

de unirse <strong>al</strong> cuerpo de profesorado del Colegio<br />

Universitario “College of the Siskiyous” en C<strong>al</strong>ifornia,<br />

Kirby ejerció la enseñanza en los colegios<br />

públicos de Mt. Shasta. Allí fundó y dirigió el<br />

innovador y muy aclamado grupo de jazz “COS<br />

Voc<strong>al</strong> Jazz Ensemble”. También ha participado<br />

en la creación de grupos similares en la Universidad<br />

Estat<strong>al</strong> de Colorado y en la Universidad de<br />

Misuri, Kansas City. Actu<strong>al</strong>mente dirige el grupo<br />

“Jefferson State Chor<strong>al</strong> Co<strong>al</strong>ition” en la Universidad<br />

del Sur de Oregón. Kirby ha cantado cara<br />

a cara con estrellas de jazz de la t<strong>al</strong>la de Bobby<br />

McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Jon Hendricks, Mark Murphy,<br />

Greta Matassa y Chris C<strong>al</strong>loway.<br />

Este artista ha supervisado la creación de cientos<br />

de grabaciones educativas, cinco álbumes<br />

universitarios y dos CDs de solos. Kirby es<br />

miembro de “Just 4 Kicks”, un <strong>al</strong>ocado grupo<br />

voc<strong>al</strong> a cappella, formado por cuatro hombres y<br />

especi<strong>al</strong>izado en música jazz. La música de este<br />

compositor/arreglista, con casi 3.000 composiciones/arreglos<br />

cor<strong>al</strong>es impresos a sus esp<strong>al</strong>das,<br />

se canta en todo el mundo, y éste ha llegado a<br />

vender más de 20 millones de copias.<br />

Kirby Shaw has made a major impact in chor<strong>al</strong><br />

music education and has shared his music<strong>al</strong><br />

expertise in 45 states. Kirby has degrees<br />

in Music Education and Chor<strong>al</strong> Composition<br />

from San Jose State University and a DMA<br />

degree in Chor<strong>al</strong> Conducting from the University<br />

of Washington.<br />

Kirby taught in the Mt. Shasta public schools<br />

before joining the faculty at College of the<br />

Siskiyous in C<strong>al</strong>ifornia where he founded and<br />

directed the innovative and highly acclaimed<br />

COS Voc<strong>al</strong> Jazz Ensemble. He <strong>al</strong>so pioneered<br />

similar groups at Colorado State University<br />

and The University of Missouri - Kansas City,<br />

and is now directing the Jefferson State Chor<strong>al</strong><br />

Co<strong>al</strong>ition at Southern Oregon University.<br />

Kirby has scatted one-on-one with such<br />

notables as Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Jon<br />

Hendricks, Mark Murphy, Greta Matassa and<br />

Chris C<strong>al</strong>loway. He has overseen the creation<br />

of hundreds of education<strong>al</strong> recordings, five<br />

college and university <strong>al</strong>bums and two solo<br />

CDs. Kirby is a member of Just 4 Kicks, a zany<br />

4-man a cappella voc<strong>al</strong> ensemble speci<strong>al</strong>izing<br />

in Jazz. A composer/arranger with nearly<br />

3000 chor<strong>al</strong> compositions/arrangements in<br />

print, Kirby’s music is sung around the world<br />

and has sold over 20 million copies.
